The folks at the University of Tokyo have come up with a conceptual controller that enables you to control a pointer on a phone screen without the need to touch the screen. that is a concept that lets you move a pointer around, handle a virtual keyboard, paint in 3D or zoom around a picture with relative ease. The camera is plus able to sense the distance away from the lens, letting you tap towards it briefly instead of clicking on an actual touchscreen display.

If you happen to own a device which uses a Cypress touchscreen display (a couple of examples would be the Samsung i8910 and Palm Pre), next you will be pleased that a killer app will be released soon, where their TrueTouch screens are able to detect fingers hovering by glass instead of just on it. When used in tandem with compatible software, it will be able to register mouseover input, potentially doing away with the need to touch the display itself to zoom in or perform specific commands.

Good news for folks who are running a Motorola Milestone on TELUS. You’re now able to get hold of the Android 2.1 update, and you don’t even need to be in Hong Kong. The slight downside is that you won’t be able to get an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade like Verizon’s Motorola Droid, but you are able to download it directly from Motorola’s website. Improvements include the ability to add more home screens, more widgets, animated wallpapers, updated Google Maps with pinch-to-zoom and a few others. As usual, remember to backup your files and settings before attempting an upgrade.
