Piracy on the Web is an ongoing cat and mouse game that doesn’t look like it’ll end anytime soon. Now NEC Japan has another weapon up its sleeve to fend off piracy, as the company has come up with a technology that can find illegal copies of videos uploaded to the World Wide Web in seconds. that is achieved by creating a comparison piece that is just 76 bytes from the original that can be compared to the file in question. that technology is part of the MPEG-7 standard, allowing movie producers and ISPs to identify pirates faster and more accurately. NEC claims that the technology has a 96 percent success rate and false alarm rate of 5 in 1 million during checking. It’ll be interesting to see what is the next move by subject matter pirates and how they will circumvent that.

British designer Alice Davies came up with the Virgin Media Laptop concept that offers a teaching tool that comes in a retro design, although it packs in contemporary day technology such as Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free moments – perfect when you need to demonstrate a concept or view using both hands for gesticulation plans, while laying the Virgin Media Laptop on the table comfortably. Typing can be achieved via a remote control as enlarged as it remains within working distance, while the built-in Virgin Media Broadband device makes way for fast World Wide Web navigation. It will probably rely on induction charging should that device be realized, doing away with the need for more wires. Do you think that will catch on?

While many Web savvy folks today run Firefox or Google’s Chrome browser, that doesn’t mean that Microsoft’s Net Explorer is dead. The software giant has just released another platform preview of Web Explorer 9 (IE9) in the design of IE9 Preview 2 and that latest incarnation scores 68 out of 100 on the Acid3 pop quiz. The latest build additionally claims to improve JavaScript and HTML5 performance while the full hardware acceleration for HTML5 on IE9 is able to take the workload off your computer’s processor, shifting it to the graphics chipset. There isn’t any official word on when the public beta of World Wide Web Explorer 9 will be available, but whether you want to check out the Platform Preview, feel free to do so.

Web browsers are more or less our window to the Web, so it’s obvious that they’re critical when it comes to the World Wide Web. Skyfire is looking to improve the lives of Android users by introducing Skyfire 2.0 for Android. The new version offers a SkyBar, sitting at the bottom of the screen, which offers easy access to useful new features. The most obvious improvement would be a workaround for the lack of Flash on your phone, as it can do server-side conversions of Flash video to a more supported format such as HTML5. whether you’re looking to get a new browsing experience on your device, you could give it a go. With Opera Mini being approved for the App Store, it’ll be interesting to see whether there will plus be a version of Skyfire on its way to Apple’s iPhone.

The iPhone is a really revolutionary phone, and thanks to the iPhone OS 3.0, the phone supports World Wide Web tethering, which allows you to use your iPhone as a wireless modem, allowing your laptop to access the World Wide Web via the phone. That being said, AT&T has yet to enable the feature for US customers, and according to a company spokesperson they’re still evaluating the situation, worrying about the potential traffic increase, which could hamper AT&T’s already busy network. According to the representative:

iPhone tethering has the potential to exponentially increase traffic, and we need to ensure that we’re able to deliver excellent performance for the feature ? by and above the increases in input traffic we’re already seeing ? before we will offer the feature.

Are you hoping that AT&T will enable the feature as soon as possible, or do you think that you’ll never use it?

Rhapsody has been on the iPhone for a while now and the service has gained an urgent new feature.
