Can’t afford one of those super expensive immersive gaming experiences? What you can do is try and emulate what Gavan Woolery did to come up with his virtual reality setup, which basically places his monitor inches away from his eyes. It’s definitely worth noting that that probably isn’t very healthy for your eyes and neck, but whether you’re committed, we can’t stop you, right? The display pumps out 1080p videos at 120Hz, and he’s planning to pair up the motion sensing (video in full post) with a NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit to increase the immersive feel. Now imagine playing World of Warcraft on this…

Gaikai is currently in beta mode, but it is already capable of letting gamers have a go at a wide range of games and software for free, including Eve Online, Mario Kart, World of Warcraft and Photoshop – all you need is a browser as well as Flash support. Hmm, sounds like Quake Live in some aspects, eh? Well, without the need to install any software, we’re guessing that Gaikai and OnLive are pretty similar being cloud-based gaming services, as distant as you have a decent broadband connection, you are good to go. Gaikai’s top executive claims that it does come with a more palatable marketing strategy though since the company aims to work closely with game publishers. We do wonder what the monthly subscription fee would be like, but it certain beats upgrading your machine all too often!

Traditional board games are currently on the uptrend as they take the digital step from the tabletop to desktop, but researchers from Canada’s Queen’s University want to go one step further by introducing OLED display technology which transforms individual once-cardboard pieces into a graphics-saturated mini-display, bringing together the tangible aspects of board games alongside software-generated action that is normally found in strategy games including World of Warcraft. These cardboard tiles resemble the typical white hexagons that can be found in Settlers of Catan, but the use of an overhead camera and projector will turn individual pieces into a mini-computer that can display animated video images, alongside triggering events in adjacent tiles. Looks like tabletop gaming could enjoy a new renaissance in due duration whether such technology becomes commonplace!

World of Warcraft is the undisputed king of MMORPGs in North America, that’s for certain, and to show off to the world just how much you love that game, how about getting accessories to go along with it? that is where the Sound Blaster World of Warcraft Wireless Headset comes in where you are able to enjoy realistic and dynamic sound field sans wires. The inclusion of THX TruStudio PC sound technologies provides an amazing depth of sound with virtual speakers surrounding the listener, while VoiceFX enables one to change one’s voice whenever you strike up a conversation with other folks in-game or through a standalone service such as Ventrilo. whether you don’t need the microphone at that moment, you can always detach it for safe storage elsewhere. Nice to know that its glowing panels can plus be programmed to the color of your choice, where indecisive folks will go nuts with by 16 million colors to choose from. Battery life ain’t half poor, where a 4-hour charge date results in up to 9 hours of continual audio playback.

It’s great to see that virtual reality technology is actively being worked on, after all, we’d all love to ditch our computer monitors and actually enter World of Warcraft ourselves, right? Folks by at the National University of Singapore have come up with a design that allows users to immerse themselves into the game via a visor and a wand (of sorts). They set up a room, armed with sensors to track player movements, to play an FPS game called Death Match. Users will be able to interact by ducking, dodging and jumping, which sounds just awesome.

What do you do when you feel like playing WoW (World of Warcraft) at a café, but don’t have a laptop? Why, you bring your trusty iMac to the café and set up shop there, of course! That certainly seems like what that person pictured above is doing. Panera Bread is a restaurant chain that offers free Wi-Fi to patrons, and that person seems to have been spotted more than once with his iMac at the store, playing WoW. Would you go to such extents to satisfy your crave for gaming? possibly he just thinks that the display on the 13-inch MacBook wouldn’t be good for gaming. What do you think?

If you thought that getting hitched underwater of hooked up while playing World of Warcraft etc is weird, what till you take in about the Love Plus dating sim. Apparently one guy loves his virtual girlfriend, Nene Anegasaki, so much that he’s going to marry it (her?). The magical moment is set for November 22nd, and he’s invited the media to attend, so it looks like there will be some coverage of it. What do you think of that?
