HTC HD2 Confirmed To Not Get Windows Phone 7 Upgrade
March 16, 2010

Despite earlier rumors that the popular HTC HD2 might be getting a Windows Phone 7 Series upgrade, it seems that the rumor has just been quashed, and you’ll need to get a phone with newer hardware in order to enjoy Windows Phone 7 Series. The reason cited is apparently the requirement for there to be only three buttons on the device, instead of the five that the HD2 offers. We’ve brought up the issue before about the number of buttons, so it seems that whether your phone doesn’t have three buttons on the face of it, it’s out. Considering that Windows Phone 7 Series is a whole new take from Microsoft, perhaps it’s good that you pair it up with the latest hardware anyways. Or course, there’s always a possibly that someone will figure out a way to get Windows Phone 7 Series running on the HD2 unofficially.

No Windows Phone 7 Upgrade For WinMob 6.x Devices
March 1, 2010

You might already have expected that, but it’s been confirmed that existing devices running Windows Mobile 6.x will not be getting an upgrade to Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 7 OS when it’s released around the end of the year, and that includes the highly-rated HTC HD2. According to Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the APAC region, the HD2 doesn’t qualify as it doesn’t have three buttons (it has five). The complete requirements for Windows Phone 7 devices haven’t been confirmed yet, but that should be unveiled at that month’s MIX developer conference in Vegas. The good news is that Microsoft won’t be ditching WinMob 6.x users just yet, as there are many enterprise users and business apps for the OS. Of course, it’s probably only a matter of instance before it’s phased out in favor of Windows Phone 7, though the upcoming 6.5.3 update should help keep WinMob 6.x chugging along. Are you looking forward to Windows Phone 7 series, or have you already been lured to the iPhone or Android-powered devices?

Garmin M10 gets Windows Mobile 6.5.3 upgrade
February 4, 2010

The relatively low key Garmin M10 smartphone is yet another handset that has received the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 upgrade, giving that 600MHz Qualcomm processor-powered device a more potent punch. Just to refresh your memory, the M10 is equipped with a 3.5" WVGA resistive screen display, 4GB of internal memory and a 5-megapixel camera. Needless to say, before taking that upgrade plunge, it is always advisable to manufacture a backup of all your documents lest something goes wrong somewhere.

December 30, 2009
It looks like Windows Mobile 7 won’t be the nearest upgrade after Windows Mobile 6.5. On a MSDN page, you’ll notice that there is mention of Windows Mobile 6.5.3 when discussing Widgets on Windows Mobile. Would you be interested in getting a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 upgrade before Windows Mobile 7 is out, or would you rather jump straight into Windows Mobile 7?
