When the Nintendo Wii was released, many folks scoffed at it, but in spite of the detractors, the console managed to do really well. That being said, is the aging console finally beginning to run out of steam? According to Nintendo’s fiscal report, the gaming company sold 20.53 million Wii consoles last year, which is a 21 percent drop from the 25.95 million of the previous year. Of course, while that doesn’t sound too exciting for Nintendo, it’s still worth noting that that is still Nintendo’s third-best year ever. Will sales of the Wii pick up next year, or will Nintendo need to churn out a successor to that console in order to revive sales?

Last week’s chatter about the imminent release of the black Nintendo Wii was spot on. The $199.99 price has been announced by resellers and has since been confirmed by Nintendo. The Black Wii will come with Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus accessory (for games like archery) – that is like a 20% accessory + game bonus. Note that the bundles will additionally be available with the white Wii, starting on May 9th. It was about date for the black Wii to come out, as we spotted them a while ago in Japan. Are you more interested by the color, or by the bundle?

In today’s interview he said some interesting things about Wii’s successor. that might not be Nintendo Wii 2 by the way. Mr. Miyamoto said he couldn’t give out that kind of knowledge, but two other variants apart from Wii 2 are Wii HD or even a completely new console. What he did say though was that the emphasis in design are put on how original and distinctive the console will be compared to its rivals. That is considering today everyone has the same technology at their disposal and Wii 2’s (Wii HD’s, etc.) future is down to different gaming experience. We’ll see what’s what in June soon after.

You might have thought that Polaroid was done for a few years back, but now the company has come out and stated that it’s planning to enter the gaming scene, which is a big shift from its usual forte – cameras. Apparently that won’t be Polaroid’s first foray into the gaming scene, as the company offered a 15-in-1 game controller about two years back. The company now plans to offer sports packs and a sensor bar for the Wii, a microphone headset and battery packs for the Xbox 360, third-party wireless controllers for the PS3 and a dock for the Nintendo DS. Do you think that strategy will succeed? We do wish them the best of luck, though.

If you aren’t addicted to The Sims game yet, you might be very soon. EA has confirmed that the Sims 3 is bound for consoles, and is slated to hit the Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. The game won’t be just blindly ported to different console, as each version will boast some different features. Examples include the Nintendo Wii which offers an exclusive beach town for your sims to enjoy, or the DS version which makes full use of the touchscreen, allowing you to draw your own buildings and decorate the furniture via stylus input. The exact release instance hasn’t been confirmed, but you can expect it to be released around the fall.

This has been such a towering moment coming that it’s not even funny anymore. Word is going around that major retailers such as Target, GameStop and Future Shop have stated that the black version of the Nintendo Wii will be going on sale on May 9th in the US, with the Canadian release set for May 23rd. The console itself is identical to the current white version, but the bundle will include a Wiimote, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resortland and Wii MotionPlus upgrade. The device will be offered with HP Pavilion PCs exclusively, allowing users to enjoy interactive games like tennis, bowling, pool and some others.
