Feel that your Google Nexus One is a wee bit too slow after a while? Well, here’s a cheap (nay, free!) method of making certain you are able to throw in an additional 21MB of RAM into said smartphone without requiring a hardware upgrade. All you need to do is tweak the kernel and remap memory usage to free up a bunch of resources, which will involve a custom kernel image. Pretty neat, eh? Unlike computers these days, 21MB of additional RAM does speed up a handset pretty noticeably.

Toshiba’s NB305 netbook will be getting a minor upgrade not on the outside, but rather, on the inside with the inclusion of a new DDR3-enabled N455 Atom processor coupled with 1GB of 1066MHz DDR3 RAM to speed things up a wee bit. Said model, additionally known as the Toshiba NB305-10F, has been seen on the official Toshiba France website recently alongside a list of specifications such as a 10.1″ display at 1,024 x 600 resolution, a 250GB hard drive and Windows 7 Basic as the operating system of choice. No view on availability, but it ought to retail for somewhere in the €350 region.

We know that electric vehicles (EVs) are the way forward as the automotive industry wants to wean folks off gas, but that is still a expanded way in coming before EVs become mainstream and affordable decent for the average Joe on the street. Geely recently unveiled its Gleagle IG that comes with a solar panel on its front bonnet, presumably to help juice up its batteries by some bit whenever you are parked under the sun (or stuck in rush hour traffic, for that matter). Surely the solar panel won’t be able to charge its internal battery fully unless you leave it out for weeks on end (great for towering term parking in an open air carpark), but at least it does help a wee bit each day.

Check out that experimental robot mouth from Japan (where else) that is a pretty worthy attempt to teach robots to talk – while it is still a lengthy way off from robots being as intelligent as the ones we see in sci-fi movies, at least it is a start. The mouth right now looks more creepy than anything else, so hopefully the scientific boffins behind it will be able to compose the thing look a wee bit more realistic.

Looks like the “war” rages on, with Google updating a page which tracks the status of its services in China to indicate that its “Mobile” service there is now partly blocked. that might probably mean a service disruption for perhaps one, or all of the features (heaven forbid) that Google offers to users of Google-powered phones, and among these would include the mobile version of its search, e-mail, mapping and social networking services. On the marketing side, we think that that is a wee bit discomforting since it might mean more folks in China picking up the iPhone instead of an Android-powered handset – and considering China’s every growing middle class as well as the population there, it could end up being a considerable profit for whichever company that comes out tops.

Emporia of Austria has released new cellphones which target the elderly, making certain that they are simple to use and will not cause any unnecessary confusion. that has resulted in large buttons as well as a must-have – we’re talking about big text displays here alongside hearing aid compatibility. The Emporia Solid is more rugged than normal, sporting the ability to shrug off short drops as well as being water- and dirt-resistant. As for the Emporia Elegance, that one is a wee bit more classy with a similar 1.8″ OLED display, hearing aid compatibility mode, SMS support, a car charger and belt clip. Expect the Emporia Solid and Elegance to retail for €199 and €129, respectively.

Richard Solo is back with a brand new backup battery for your iPhone 3G/3GS or iPod touch, where that one not only offers a lifeline when you are in the middle of nowhere, it plus sports a flashlight for you to find your way around at night as well as a laser pointer just in case you want to assemble a presentation in the middle of nowhere (or target an animal while you’re on a hunt). The charger holds ample juice for one full charge and a wee bit more, where the $70 price point comes with a USB charger, USB car charger and wall charger as well.

LG’s GD910 watch phone caused quite a stir when it was first revealed to the masses, but that instance round someone spotted a subtly redesigned version of the £500 timepiece, where it comes with a wee bit more curves alongside a new logo placement that is on top instead of being at the bottom of the display. No concept on whether the changes were just cosmetic or there is more than meets the eye, although we do keep our fingers crossed that it is the latter.

We brought you word on the Lenovo X201 leak a few days ago, and the notebook is finally official – the full size X201 is more than capable of stashing away a dual-core 2.66GHz Core i7 processor within its chassis, alongside the other lesser options of 2.4GHz and 2.53GHz Core i5 chips. In addition, the fingerprint reader is now slightly smarter than normal, letting users users sign in or take secure actions as well as starting up and login using just one gesture. Continuously powered USB ports additionally help as you will be able to juice up other devices while the system is sleeping or turned off. The Lenovo X201 is tipped to retail from $1,199 upwards depending on the type of stuff you want inside. What you see above is the tablet version which costs a wee bit more.
