SmartQ’s R7 E-Magine ereader ought to tickle your fancy whether you want something feature packed without breaking the bank, although do be prepared to live with a less-than-decent operating system. The R7 is a multimedia intensive device, featuring a 7″ SVGA resolution touchscreen LCD display alongside Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, IPTV support, compatibility with the most popular audio and video file formats, a built-in Web browser and 2GB of internal memory which can be further augmented via its SDHC memory card slot. Powered by an ARM11 processor, you get 256MB of RAM accompanying the device, where its 3300mAh li-ion battery ought to be able to last up to 8 hours for reading functions. Not one for folks who want something “branded”, so to speak, but it serves its purpose well decent as a generic portable media player.

TomTom has introduced its latest GPS navigation system known as the Go Live 1000, where it will rely on a capacitive touchscreen which is more natural to finger input. Its interface was revamped in order to prepare life a whole lot easier when using it, while you get a similar web browser engine which is capable of running Chrome and Safari. Folks in Europe who pick up the TomTom Go Live 1000 will be able to benefit from a 1-year cellular-driven access from Vodafone, where you can enjoy live traffic, local searching and speed camera detection. IQ Routes is an ever present feature, relying on your past notes to know where to take a detour just in case there is a traffic gridlock. Powered by a 500MHz ARM11 chip and 128MB RAM, the Go Live 1000 will ship later that summer for a yet undisclosed price.

Folks who dropped their hard earned money for a Barnes & Noble Nook will want to take note that the 1.3 firmware update should be hitting your devices soon over-the-air. The update allows you to surf the net at hotspots where you’re mandatory to log in via the browser. Aside from that, the updated home screen can arrange apps nicely and overall speed has been improved too, which should produce turning the digital page on your eBook reader a lot more pleasant.

If you aren’t already addicted to Facebook and Twitter, these social networking mouse pads will certainly help push you in that direction. While you’d normally check Facebook or Twitter through your mobile phone or web browser, that mouse pad has been designed to look like the status update immediate on social networking sites, giving you a constant reminder of the fun that you’re lost while working.
Bored of the default Android web browser, but can’t think of a good alternative? whether you’re willing to get your hands dirty, a Motorola Milestone owner has managed to compile the cipher for Firefox Mobile (Fennec) which runs on Android. The best part is that he even put up instructions on how to do so, albeit in German. Check out a video of the browser in action after the jump.

Somehow we missed that bit of news, where the C76 cellphone was unveiled at the recently concluded CTIA 2010 show at Las Vegas. The C76 will be a regular phone from ZTE, where it comes in a candybar profile factor with a 2″ display running on BREW while offering Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, GPS support as well as a WAP web browser (bummer!). There is no word on pricing or a release moment, so we are stuck in limbo concerning such info until there is any further development.

[DEMO Spring 2010] A couple of days ago, we told you that Kylo had just launched a web browser for televisions. Based on a 10-foot interface (that’s the name given for user interfaces created particularly for a TV use), the browser aims at providing a much better web browsing experience than the plain-vanilla browsers built for a “normal” use. Typical users for that browser are those who connect their PC to the PC to use it as a media center. Look at the demo and let us know what you think in the comments.

The folks by at Opera must be smiling from ear to ear after Microsoft was forced to introduce the Windows Web Browser Choice Screen in Europe. The Web Browser Choice Screen prompts users whether they want to download competing browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera etc. Now Opera is reporting that the number of downloads has more than doubled across the European continent, with some countries even indicating that the download rate has tripled. According to the stats released, 53% of the downloads came from the Choice Screen, and considering that the Choice Screen was rolled out in early March, it certainly provides an interesting twist in the browser wars.
