New Attack On World Wide Web Explorer Via F1 Key
March 3, 2010

While Net Explorer (IE) 8 has come a expanded way from the instance that there was only the insecure Net Explorer 6, it seems like there is a new reason to ditch IE for another browser, particularly whether you’re running Windows XP. Microsoft has issued a security advisory that warns of an issue with IE (any version). Apparently that protection threat allows a malicious web site to infiltrate your PC through IE using VBScript to access the Windows help files. As such, the malicious web site would try to trick users into hitting the F1 key, which would launch the attack. It’s worth noting that that affects Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003, so whether you’re running Vista, or Windows 7, that doesn’t affect you. What is the main web browser that you use everyday? Let us know via the comments section.

Google Chrome Ad campaign is Working: Market Share is Up
March 1, 2010

Google has been pushing its Chrome web browser very hard to the world: we have seen ads all by the place (USA, Asia and Europe) and all these efforts are getting some traction: Since April 2009, Chrome's market share has gone from 1.79% to 5.61%. Arguably, growing from 1.79% is not as difficult as growing from 20% or 60% but it is still a significant achievement, and it seems likely that Chrome will continue to gain market share considering it is a good browser.
I would be very curious to know what the cost of acquisition "per install" was, given the marketing blitz that Google has unleashed. The second thing is: what happens when the campaign stops?
Although Microsoft's World Wide Web Explorer share is decreasing steadily, each date a customer buys a new PC or does a fresh install of Windows, the game is “reset” back to having Microsoft's World Wide Web Explorer as the default browser. that is still an inherent advantage that Microsoft holds, and one that has been challenged in Europe – even whether most PC customers don’t know. Personally, I use Chrome along with Firefox, which is still my main browser considering of the Firefox plug-ins. What kind of user are you?

Opera 10.5 beta for Mac
February 26, 2010

Opera has just rolled out its 10.5 beta version of its web browser for the Mac platform, which ought to be a whole lot more stable compared to the Alpha version. One of the main additions would be the inclusion of multi-touch gestures, Growl notifications, support for Apple’s Cocoa application programming interface, and restored support for Macs running the old Mac OS 10.4 Tiger operating system. You will require an Intel processor to run Opera though, so the older PowerPC processor systems are out of luck here.

Samsung Omnia HD gets JB1 firmware update
February 11, 2010

Samsung Omnia HD owners will be pleased to know that they will be able to download the JB1 firmware update via PC Studio 7, where that firmware will see the introduction of kinetic scrolling to the smartphone, although it does not apply to the whole interface, but in parts only. Apart from that, additional improvements are a zippier web browser, better camera settings and a slew of bug fixes. You might find performance to be pretty sluggish after that though, since the firmware update will leave your system with just 17MB of memory left instead of 30MB prior to that firmware update. Be certain to prepare a backup before you continue, lest Murphy's Law strikes!
