Sony has lengthy endured the rumor that Sony installs a secret timer in all of its devices, where these “failsafes” cause their devices to fail after a specified date period. Rumors were rife from the 1980s onwards, as Sony devices just stopped working the moment their warranties expired. Guess that is one rumor that is much longer lived compared to the iSlate, as whispers of such a secret Sony timer still abound today. What do you think? We personally favor that as hogwash, as such a move would definitely kill the company whether proof ever surfaces, and Sony is way too big to take such a risk.

You might remember i-mate for its rather decent lineup of rugged Windows Mobile smartphones, but the company has been nearly falling apart recently, reportedly due to some rather unpleasant business dealings. Now it seems that HTC might be slowing acquiring the company. There isn’t any official confirmation of such a deal just yet, but the fact that HTC has ported a phone number stating that they would be honoring i-mate warranties might be a good tip of things to come. Do you miss phones from i-mate, or do you think what’s on the market are already good abundant?

We all know that smoking is poor for health, but it seems that it might plus be poor for your Macbook or iMac. Reports are going around that 2 customers have been denied warranty repairs to their MacBook and iMac by Apple, despite both having extended AppleCare warranties. The reason behind it is that the machines were exposed to second-hand smoke, and Apple claims that the nicotine released from cigarettes is classified as a bio-hazard by the Operational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and thus, Apple employees are within their rights to refuse to work on a machine that has come into contact with the chemical. Have any of you encountered such an issue before? Drop us a comment and let us know your experience.
