BBC iPlayer arrives on BlackBerry

BBC iPlayer arrives on BlackBerry

Looks like folks who tote around a BlackBerry will now be able to enjoy BBC's iPlayer, allowing you to stream on-demand videos directly to the smartphone without lost a beat. Wi-Fi connectivity is called for to take advantage of BBC iPlayer for BlackBerry, but it works perfectly fine by buffering video extremely fast, although the fuzzy image quality can be quite a let down since undoubtful BlackBerries like the Bold 9700 comes with a sharper resolution display than the iPhone. Anyone else happy with that, and what are some of the future improvements that you would like to see?

Spy Video TRAKR remote controlled robot

Spy Video TRAKR remote controlled robot

Watched the movie Spy Kids with your family, only to have the little ones bug you about getting them the latest spy gear, never mind that you're already on the dole? Well, assuming you managed to pick up a job along the way, you might want to consider setting aside $120 for the Spy Video TRAKR remote controlled robot which is the first toy of its kind that can run on pre-programmed applications, thanks to special filters and routines which can be input and even shared online. Sounds suspiciously familiar like Lego's Mindstorms line, but let us concentrate on the Spy Video TRAKR instead. It comes with a camera which will stream video (no concept on its resolution) straight to a full color LCD display on the remote, where both videos and stills can be saved onto an SD memory card. Perfect tool for scaring the family pet, as it has a microphone that allows you to remotely give commands. Guess kids who have that will probably look just as smug as the boffin on your right. [Press Release]

Cinedeck Allows You To Capture And Edit High-res Footage On The Go

Lugging around heavy recording gear certainly isn’t any filmmaker’s dream, so it seems that the Cinedeck might have found a nice place in the market for itself. The Cinedeck is a digital video recorder that’s 8-inches wide and weighs in at just 4 pounds. You’ll be able to hook up your camera that outputs HDMI or HDSDI into the Cinedeck’s solid-state drives. Aside from storing your videos and playing them nicely, the on-board Intel Core 2 Extreme quad qx9300 processor powers the Windows OS inside, allowing you to hook up a mouse, keyboard and larger monitor to get some serious work done. The Cinedeck should be able to handle resolutions up to 1080p. Despite the company planning to roll out updated versions of that device for 3D shooting and higher-resolution 2K film, the price of it is still $7995. So whether you’re seriously intent on getting one of these, you might want to check your bank balance first. Press release.

Only 80k Nexus One Phones Sold In The First Month

Only 80k Nexus One Phones Sold In The First Month

The Nexus One from Google might have had plenty of hype in the build up to its official announcement, but it seems that despite that, initial sales haven’t reflected that hype. According to analyst firm Flurry Inc., Google sold just 80,000 units of the device during its first month of being on sale. whether you want a comparison, The Motorola Droid sold 525,000 units and the iPhone sold 600,000 units on their first months respectively. Speculation is that that could be due to Google selling the phone online, and not offering it for sale directly through a wireless service provider. Aside from that, the lack of Nexus One advertising plus might have been a contributing factor, particularly when you take into history the number of web ads available for the Droid and iPhone. That being said, Google has come up with a rather interesting series of videos on the creation of the Nexus One, so possibly that will help.
