A bunch of researchers at the University of Liege managed to pit their brains together, coming up with an algorithm which is smart decent to separate movement from background in a digital camera. They dub the process ViBe, and that patented piece of cipher will not exceed 100 lines of C. The video above shows off proof of concept by hacking the cipher into CHDK, which is actually an alternative Canon PowerShot firmware. Do take note that that is meant for non-commercial use only.

[CES 2010] TuneBug has come up with some rather interesting speakers, and you can check them out at CES. The TuneBug Shake functions like a “sound generator”, and can be attached to devices, such as your helmet, and will pass vibrations through the surface, effectively turning your helmet into a speaker, allowing you to listen to music while you’re biking (however dangerous it may be). The TuneBug Vibe functions in a similar manner, but is designed to be attached to a flat surface to generate sound. In case you’re thinking of getting these, the Shake is going for $119.95, while the Vibe is going for $69.99.

Folks who always have a soft spot for speakers compared to headphones might just find the Tunebug Vibe to be useful as it is able to convert virtually any surface into a flatpanel speaker. The Tunebug Vibe can hook up to any device via a standard 3.5mm jack, thanks to its own SurfaceSound technology. No notion on how the audio quality would be like, but we’re guessing that depending on the surface which you choose, the type of sound that comes out would be very, very different. whether you feel like taking the plunge, soon after the Tunebug Vibe Portable SurfaceSound Speaker is going for $69.95.

Is Amazon feeling the heat from Barnes & Noble’s Nook eBook reader? Well, whether you’re the type who likes to read within the lines, possibly the statement from an Amazon PR guy might give off that vibe. He reminds us that the Kindle is 40% thinner, 10% lighter and has double the battery life compared to the Nook, not to mention that the Kindle is currently available, while the Nook won’t be shipping to you just yet.
