Xperia X10 User Interface Ported To HTC Magic
March 22, 2010

If you’re envious of the fancy user interface (UI) on Sony Ericsson’s Android-powered Xperia X10, there might be hope for you, whether you’re using a HTC Magic. While it’s still far from perfect, it seems that some folks by at the XDA forums have managed to get the Rachael UI ported to the HTC Magic. It not fully functional at the moment, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction, and hopefully they will be able to improve on it. Do you think that the Xperia X10 has a better UI, or are you already happy with Android’s default UI? Check out a video of the HTC Magic (with the Rachael UI) in action after the jump.

GlideTV: User Interface To Watch TV with the Navigator Remote
March 22, 2010
[DEMO 2010] We have selected the GlideTV Navigator in our Uber10 2009 list, and today, the company has launched the on screen user interface to go with it. From the screen shots that I received, the application looks pretty promising, offering a visual gallery of all the shows available across multiple sites categorized by genre, an on screen keyboard to search by name, and a one-stop screen to access the major TV channels, the online video and music providers and the most popular websites such as Amazon or Facebook.
We selected the Glide Navigator for its sleek and elegant design and the need that media center users have for efficient remote controls that look good in the living room. The new user interface gets the same design quality and fits perfectly the device design. Check out the photo gallery to see the user interface and the device pictures. Features from the manufacturer are available in the complete commentary, along with the GlideTV competitive comparison chart (provided by the company).

Samsung Star TV phone unveiled
March 19, 2010
Samsung's latest Star TV phone, additionally known as the S5233T, has just been released at South East Asia, with chances that it will reach in India as well. Telegent Systems will be the ones providing the analog mobile TV receiver while Samsung has done a number on its user interface to offer rich graphical controls. You will now be able to channel surf on your cellphone, flicking the screen to change channels, where other features include one-click screen capture and record, an on-screen keypad channel entry and reception of incoming SMS messages even when you are watching TV. No concept on pricing though.

Windows Phone 7 Demo at SXSW
March 18, 2010
Editor's note about the Video: the demo was done on a vertical monitor, I shot it in portrait, you may have to turn you screen to watch it more comfortably.
[SXSW] Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7 at MWC in Barcelona and we saw the demo there, yesterday, the Microsoft representative at SXSW showed me a demo and I videotaped it, so, you can check it out. Windows Phone 7 is still in beta mode and the user interface is similar to the Zune HD's one is based on tiles that are visually appealing and friendly to the fingers. I like the design and the ease of use, the organization of the users' goods with tiles and "hubs" brings most of the user's notes access at the top level (the phone home page).

DivX Plus Features New User Interface
March 16, 2010

DivX is launching an updated suite of software called DivX Plus for Windows (7, Vista and XP). The new set of applications feature an updated user interface that looks much better than the previous one - it's easier and more intuitive to use as well. The suite is composed of: the DivX Plus Player, the DivX Plus Web Player, the DivX Plus Codec Pack, and the DivX Plus Converter. I had some hands-on duration with the software and here's what I came away with:
- Transferring videos to another (divx-certified) device just got a lot easier. DivX To Go will transfer and even convert of the fly, whether essential. You can either burn a CD or use a USB drive, but that is not networked yet.
- 1080HD conversion in .mkv (H.264) is now free... and free is good.
- DivX seems to have a performance advantage by Flash and Silverlight. DivX Plus plus offers surround sound and subtitles in several languages.
Anyway, it's free so whether you're interested just try it for yourself. It's available at www.divx.com/software/divx-plus.

Windows Phone 7 SDK and tools available, for free
March 15, 2010
Microsoft is making a remarkable re-entry into the mobile application development at Mix. Starting right now, development tools for Windows Phone 7 are available, for free, at developer.windowsphone.com. To get an concept of what the tools do, I would recommend you to look at the keynote that was broadcasted at live.visitmix.com, but the basic concept is that Windows Phone 7 development looks sweet. Web-based applications seem fairly easy to build, particularly whether you are already familiar with .NET. Blender, the tool used to build the (Silverlight) user interface is additionally provided for free. A handful of applications like FourSquare or Netflix (with streaming video) were shown, but overall that is looking very good for Microsoft, much better than it has ever been for them in the mobile space. that is big.

Verizon Nexus One To Offer Sense UI And Will Only Be Sold Online?
March 12, 2010

While there was a rumor going around before that that Google’s Nexus One might be sold through Verizon Wireless’ stores, whether that latest rumor is true, soon after it will certainly quash the previous one. According to a leaked screenshot that has surfaced online, the Nexus One will still only be available through Google’s phone store, though the surprising bit is that the phone might actually come with HTC’s popular Sense UI. The original Nexus One shipped with just the stock Android 2.1 user interface (UI), and didn’t feature any fancy UI, but whether Verizon’s Nexus One does sport Sense UI, it’ll be interesting to see whether HTC has revamped it for the Nexus One. Word is that Google and Verizon might be announcing the Nexus One (for Verizon) on March 23rd at CTIA, though there isn’t any official confirmation on that just yet. Will the inclusion of the Sense UI help you construct the decision to get that phone, or is it just another gimmick to you?
