Skype for Windows Mobile killed off

Skype for Windows Mobile has been discontinued simply considering of a subpar user experience when compared to the iPhone and Symbian version. According to Skype, "Our focus is on providing a rich user experience that allows you to enjoy free Skype-to-Skype and low cost calls as easily on the move as you do at your desktop. We felt that Skype Lite and Skype for Windows Mobile were not offering the best possible Skype experience." Guess that means those who want to install Skype for Windows Mobile won't be able to do so, but folks who have already done so can continue using it. Could we be looking at a Windows Phone 7 series later next year?

Lenovo thinking about 10.1-inch X100e

Lenovo thinking about 10.1-inch X100e

It seems that the folks at Lenovo are mulling by whether to roll out a 10.1" version of the X100e business netbook, where it will run off the Intel Atom N450 Pine Trail processor assuming the support page is right in their specifications. A smaller display area would translate into a more portable experience, while the trademark thin bezel that Lenovo has incorporated into its netbooks could aftereffect in a more compact user experience. Hopefully the battery life of the revamped machine is something that makes it worth owning.to be believed. The smaller screen would mean it will be more portable and whether it's going to be a ThinkPad, the trademark tiny bezel will mean a much more compact netbook overall. I hope they can push the battery life to at least 8 hours with that new setup, something business travelers would welcome very much.

Microsoft rumored to purchase Research In Motion

Microsoft rumored to purchase Research In Motion

This is purely a rumor, boys and girls, but whether it is true, thereupon it could possibly be one of the biggest acquisition stories to period - Microsoft buying up Research In Motion (RIM). After all, Microsoft currently needs to get into the hardware business so that it will have better control of the entire user experience, but for Microsoft to purchase RIM? That sounds just impossible, considering RIM has a pretty good gig going on with their line of BlackBerrys worldwide at the moment where smartphones are concerned. What do you think - does that rumor hold any water?

HP New Digital Camera Lineup

HP New Digital Camera Lineup

[PMA 2010] HP unveiled its new compact 12 MP digital camera lineup at PMA, two of them, the CW450 (two models on the right in the picture) and the PW460t (the light purple one in the picture) feature a touch interface. All the devices will be available in Spring 2010, price range from $99 to $149. Nothing amazing in that line up, except that I do like touch interfaces for cameras, it makes the user experience much more intuitive. Read the key features in the complete exposition.

Acer neoTouch P400 Windows Mobile 6.5 Phone

February 17, 2010

Acer neoTouch P400 Windows Mobile 6.5 Phone

[MWC 2010] The neoTouch P400 could be seen as the Windows Mobile nemesis of the beTouch E400 (Android). However, the user experience is very different. Here, you have Windows Mobile 6.5 – and that’s convenient whether you edit Office documents, but to be honest, the application offering lacks sexiness. Now that we’ve seen Windows Phone 7 Series in action – it is really hard to get excited by a Windows Mobile 6 device. Inside the neoTouch P400, you will find a Qualcomm 7227 processor. The end aftereffect is decent performance, but nothing stellar. that is a mid-range phone, after all. It says that Mobile IE 6 supports Flash, but there’s was no connectivity available (at Mobile World Congress!), so I could not try it.

MOTOROI Hands-On

February 17, 2010

MOTOROI Hands-On
We’ve heard about it since last month, and now we have had the opportunity to play with it: first impressions. Coming to the U.S in March, the MOTOROI is a cousin of the Motorola Droid. Its design is more elegant and it feels lighter, but it does not have a physical keyboard. It runs on a similar hardware platform to the Motorola Droid, so no surprises there. Note that it has a 8 megapixel camera with Xenon Flash and is capable of recording 720p movies that can next be replayed on a big screen via HDMI. On the phone’s screen, the videos looked OK, but I would really need to pull them to a PC to take a good look at them. Just like the Droid, the MOTOROI has an optional docking station that turns it into a super fancy alarm clock while charging it. Overall, it does feel like using a Droid/Milestone and I expect the user experience to be largely similar. Check out our Motorola Droid review whether you want to know more.

HTC HD Mini unveiled

HTC HD Mini unveiled

[MWC 2010] Just fresh from the launch, the HTC HD Mini was exposed on the show. The view behind the HTC HD mini is that you *should* have the same user experience (than the HD) – but with a smaller device… Anyway, the device has a 3.2” (320x480) capacitive screen, which is much smaller than the previous 4.3” display – but it is not really mini by ordinary phone standards. But it additionally comes with a slower processor: 600Mhz. It’s not terrible, but that’s not great either. While the HTC HD Mini might be a decent phone, I just don’t see why it has the HD name. It is not “HD” by any means, even whether it does look like the HD2 (from far away).
