Buffalo Lipstick USB Flash Drive
March 17, 2010
![]()
Dressing up a flash drive to look somewhat akin to a lipstick probably isn’t going to get it brownie points with the male audience, but perhaps Buffalo was targeting its female customer base with its RUF2-JWS series of flash drives. It’s available in capacities of 4GB or 8GB, and in four different color options, including Rich Brown, Glossy Pink, Royal White, and Shiny Coral.

DivX Plus Features New User Interface
March 16, 2010

DivX is launching an updated suite of software called DivX Plus for Windows (7, Vista and XP). The new set of applications feature an updated user interface that looks much better than the previous one - it's easier and more intuitive to use as well. The suite is composed of: the DivX Plus Player, the DivX Plus Web Player, the DivX Plus Codec Pack, and the DivX Plus Converter. I had some hands-on duration with the software and here's what I came away with:
- Transferring videos to another (divx-certified) device just got a lot easier. DivX To Go will transfer and even convert of the fly, whether essential. You can either burn a CD or use a USB drive, but that is not networked yet.
- 1080HD conversion in .mkv (H.264) is now free... and free is good.
- DivX seems to have a performance advantage by Flash and Silverlight. DivX Plus plus offers surround sound and subtitles in several languages.
Anyway, it's free so whether you're interested just try it for yourself. It's available at www.divx.com/software/divx-plus.

Talk about a brilliant marketing campaign - Indian media storage and technology company Moserbaer has come up with the notion of dressing up one of their trucks to resemble that of a regular USB drive, USB connector and all. that is real, top class storage capacity, that's for certain! What are some of the other more eye-catching physical tech ads that you have seen so far?

Tanita body composition weighing machine
March 3, 2010
Tanita has come up with a meter-integrated body composition weighing machine that boasts an SD memory card slot to store knowledge within, and it will hit the Japanese market come that April. All documents that is stored on its SD memory card can be read on a PC thanks to its notes management software, where chronological graphs are generated from the info. The main reason behind an SD card? Well, Tanita claims it offers more durability compared to a regular USB drive with all the insertion and removal, although we leave that up to open debate.

Astro Drive A101 is tiniest USB 3.0 device
March 3, 2010

Apogee's Astro Drive A101 holds the distinction for being the smallest USB 3.0 device in the market at the moment, although we're pretty certain that that is not a permanent situation and will change within the next couple of months or so. Capable of achieving read and write speeds of up to 180MB/s and 130MB/s, respectively, that USB flash drive will come in 128GB, 64GB and 32GB capacities although there is no word on pricing. Folks who are interested can pick from a couple of color choices for its case just to form a fashion statement at your next geek meet-up.

Concept: Disco USB Flash Drive Shows The Type Of Files Stored Within
March 3, 2010

This concept disco USB flash drive certainly looks interesting. At a glance, you’ll be forgiven for thinking that it just uses the USB potential to show some fancy lights, but what it really does is represent the files stored inside the drive. whether there are no lights, the drive is empty; pink lights indicate images stored; blue lights are documents and green lights are movies. We’re not certain whether there is a light for other file types, but you have to confess that it’s a rather cool and innovative concept. whether that were to be turned into a consumer product, it would certainly produce a nice gift.

IUM Infinite USB Memory Device
February 20, 2010

Infinitec's IUM Infinite USB Memory Device is a USB dongle that is capable of streaming files sans wires from a paired computer to a connected game console, HDTV, photo frame, digital media adapter, or Blu-ray player, just as though they were stored locally on a USB flash drive. There is one drawback to that setup though - it can only be paired to one host PC at a day, and that after you install the Infinite Portal PC application. No view on pricing, but we'll just have to wait until March 1st to find out when it launches.
