While there hasn’t been any official price or release term for the HP Slate in the U.S. just yet, news is already out that the device could be launched in June, and be ready for sale in Europe by September. Based on the info we dug up, the device will be going for around €400 ($545), and will sport an Intel Atom CPU, built-in webcam, USB connectivity, built-in card reader and the controversial Flash support. Of course, that doesn’t mean that we’ll be getting the HP Slate for $545 when it’s released in the U.S., but it might be a rough guide whether you’re thinking of saving up your pennies for its imminent launch. Would a $545 price point be decent for the HP Slate to hold its own against the $499 Apple iPad?

Panasonic has just released its 48GB and 64GB SDXC memory cards alongside a USB card reader which is capable of handling the SDXC format with aplomb. You will find that both cards come in the Class10 speed range, enabling it to hit a whopping 22MB/sec. The 48GB card is capable of storing slightly more than half a dozen hours of full HD video footage in AVCHD format, while the larger capacity model is able to hit 8.5 hours in a similar format. We’re pretty certain backing up the card is going to be a pain in the rear, particularly when it is filled to the brim. Expect these new Panasonic memory cards to reach in Japan that February 19th. The 48GB, 64GB and USB reader will retail for $550, $700 and $55, respectively.

[CES 2010] ioGear has a prototype USB 3.0 PCI Express Card in the works, but it isn’t going to hit the mainstream market anytime soon as their engineers are still working on it. Ten times faster theoretically compared to a USB 2.0 connection, it is capable of hitting 5Gbps when transferring info, and good thing it does not discriminate against USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices. We suppose that will only roll out when USB 3.0 peripherals become mainstream.

Looking for a new external hard drive? Well, whether the sleek and sexy Buffalo drive isn’t suitable for you, perhaps the speed of USB 3.0 that the new Western Digital MyBook features will entice you? The drive will be available in 1TB and 2TB sizes, and will be 5Gpbs-capable, thanks to its USB 3.0 connection. You’ll be able to pick up the 1TB version for $180, which doesn’t sound unreasonable. While the drive is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, you’ll obviously want USB 3.0, but whether you don’t have USB 3.0 on your computer, WD is offering the drives with a USB 3.0 card for an additional $20.

If you’re a huge fan of convergence devices, soon after the USB VOIP Phone and Card Reader might just rock your boat as it boasts the functionality of a full-duplex plug-and-play VOIP phone alongside an integrated USB card reader that can handle both SD and MMC formats. Apart from that, it has an external speaker capability for hands-free conversation just in case you’re frantically trying to finish typing up a document your boss has requested for since yesterday. that nifty device retails for $12.69 from Uxsight.
