[Web 2.0] Pearltrees defined itself as the “leading-edge social web curation tool and discovery platform”, personally, I prefer “visual collaborative web browsing interface“, the word “platform” is overrated these days. At the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, the company, selected as one of only five companies to present at the Launch Pad event, unveiled its latest feature, the “super embed”. subject matter publishers will be able to gather web pages related to a topic, organize them into “pearl trees” and embed them in their composition pages, soon after readers will be able to browse these pages from the embedded pearl trees and read the related substance without leaving the commentary page. See an example embedded above, I copied Tom Foremski’s pearl tree titled “Tuesday Web 2.0 Expo Report”, check out his blog: Silicon Valley Watcher

The new Joby Gorillapod certainy lives up to its primate namesake a whole lot more – particularly when it sports magnetic feet that allows you to achor your digital camera on just about any magnetic surface, something which we are certain that gorillas are able to do instead of just holding onto trees from duration to day (since they’re land-based primates). Its trio of flexible legs all come with mighty magnets on their feet, and plays nice with cameras that tip the scales up to 11.5 ounces. Fancy picking one up to capture more creative photos? All it costs would be $24.95.

[Showstoppers at MWC] Navteq is showing its Enhanced 3D City Models, a new 3D dataset that aims to supply a better representation of the road, but without becoming a distraction for the driver. Navteq says that the 3D city view is great for drivers to comprehend where things are, but things like trees and other things not related to navigation have been left out on purpose. While the demo was fluid, we wonder how it will look in actual products – it’s out of Navteq’s hand at that point as they just supply the notes. However, you can imagine that devices like onboard computers might be more energetic than phones in the future. Talking about phones, the dataset has levels of details (LOD) so whether a device does not have the essential resources (speed, bandwidth, memory) to display all the details, a simplified version of the geometry will be used. What do you prefer? 3D buildings or regular maps?

The city of Copenhagen in Denmark will go green that year where Christmas celebrations are concerned, and we’re not talking about the color of its trees. In fact, their traditional Christmas tree set up at their City Hall Square will boast energy-efficient LED lights that are powered by humans, where 15 bicycles are available for anyone and everyone to pedal in order to capability all 700 LED bulbs dotted along the entire tree. Good way to keep warm in the freezing weather as well, eh?
