Textile Synthesizer

March 18, 2010

The Textile Synthesizer by Jeannine Han and Dan Riley who hail from the Swedish School of Textiles is pretty interesting since that concept will be able to turn any clothing into a MIDI interface. Touch sensors just like the ones found in the iPod as well as other touchscreen displays have been woven into the textile, while an AVR micro-controller with special touch-sensing cipher will convert the hand gestures into musical commands for the music generator which will rock out with sound. The entire textile sensory area starts from the neck area to the waist, capable of producing smooth values smooth by the entire range.

Qualcomm foldable touchscreen tablet patent

Qualcomm foldable touchscreen tablet patent

Qualcomm has a patent filing of theirs published today which points toward a possible foldable touchscreen tablet. that device will merge a trio of touchscreen displays into a loner device, where its interface will change depending on the context. When fully folded, it will operate just like a standard cellphone, and when unfolded to its full glory, it will have a variety of roles, depending on the position of each individual display. While that is does not necessarily indicate an actual device, a finished product is still possible.

Intel Intelligent Digital Signage Concept

Intel Intelligent Digital Signage Concept

Intel recently demonstrated its Intelligent Digital Signage Concept that measures a whopping 7' 6", boasting multi-user capability and multi-touch. that prototype could eventually revolutionize the way society interact with digital signage technology in a host of environments including (but not limited to) stores, airports, banks and hotels. Instead of current touchscreen displays at malls that cater to only one user at a instance, a handful of consumers are able to use that side-by-side window display to explore a range of augmented reality-enabled maps of individual store floors. Apart from that, retailers have a more appealing method of getting their promotional messages across by superimposing images such as coupons and sales promotions next to product visualizations on the glass itself. It will be some moment before such displays become mainstream in the market, but don't be surprised when it appears at your local mall one fine day down the road.

WinMob 6.6 To Be Announced At MWC?

While there isn’t any official confirmation on that issue just word, a rumor originating from Taiwan indicates that Microsoft may be launching Windows Mobile 6.6 that year, possibly at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2010. The cipher name for that version is supposedly “Maldives”, and Windows Mobile 6.6 should grant you full support for capacitive touchscreen displays, which should strengthen Microsoft’s competitiveness against Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android-based platforms. Aside from there, there isn’t any other tidbit of data regarding Windows Mobile 6.6. whether we want more knowledge, it seems like MWC 2010 will be the place to find out.

Asus e-reader concept

[CES 2010] Of course Asus would not want to be left out of the picture, and their WePC collaboration with the masses have come up with some pretty cool ideas, including that e-reader concept which might or might not hit the market. It does look to be as slim as the MacNook Air (or slimmer), featuring dual touchscreen displays for you to read your digital tomes. Too poor there is no way to touch that beauty behind its glass case.

TDK tints touchscreen displays

December 24, 2009

TDK tints touchscreen displays

TDK managed to stumble upon a method to tint touchscreens in a cost-effective manner, where they add color to transparent electrode sheets which serve as the basis of those displays. Such electrode sheets will come in 13 colors down the road, where among them include red, green, blue, aquamarine, purple and black hues. The whole notion of having so many colors is to match the device's body color with its touchscreen to create an nearly seamless look. All these electrode sheets will be made up of a thin film of indium tin oxide, where an adhesive layer is added to a resin film substrate to conjure a film that can be placed down evenly. Samples will be delivered to manufacturers soon, with mass production starting in April next year.
