Another day, another ebook reader – that date round with Paradigm Shift offering their EER-051D model. Why must they come up with such a convoluted model name is anyone’s guess, but we would definitely prefer something that is a whole lot easier to roll off the tongue. That aside, the EER-051D ships with a 5″ color display, an integrated FM tuner, MP3 and photo playback, 2GB of internal memory, an SD memory card slot as well as the ability to handle most popular e-book formats without excluding DRM-enabled ePub books to boot. Expect that to be rebadged in other iterations and hit the US sometime next week.

How many of you out there hate going to dentists, as they inflict equal pain on both your oral cavities as well as bank history? Fear not, you now have a robot to stand in on your behalf for those who are still undergoing training, thanks to the Hanako Showa dental simulator. that dental simulator pretends to be a Japanese woman, and is capable of giggling, wincing in pain during a wrong movement on the dentist’s part, and comes complete with a moving tongue, and gag reflex amongst others. Hmmm – interesting robot – are there any other uses for that that you can think of?

Well, despite you riding a scooter, you don’t have to concern about that big BMW tailgating you, that’s whether you’ve got a rear-facing flamethrower installed, like the scooter in the picture. A 30-year old Lincolnshire resident souped up his bike with a rear-facing flamethrower that’s capable for shooting a tongue of flame up to 12 feet away, all with a press of a button. Fortunately for you, that bike (obviously) isn’t street legal, so you can drive in peace.

We previously brought the BrainPort to your attention, but now it seems that the technology has been successfully tested on a participant. BrainPort allows the participant, a soldier who was blinded in Iraq, to see via his tongue. The system consists of a small video camera attached to a pair of sunglasses, which is connected to a device that will be placed on the user’s tongue. The system converts visual signals into electrical pulses, which are soon after sent to the user’s tongue, and the intensity of the signals will allow the user to figure out the obstacles in his path. It certainly seems like an interesting piece of tech, and whether it is able to help folks who have a visual disability, soon after it’s certainly great news.

No, we don’t mean to say that Teclast has Apple in its crosshair with the X13-S01, but rather, they drew inspiration from Cupertino’s design of the MacBook Air. The X13-S01 (how tongue-unfriendly is that naming convention) will feature a 13.3″ display, but apart from that we know nothing else of its specifications. It measures less than 1cm thin at the thinnest section, while the thickest segment stands at approximately 2.3cm, coming in a gray aluminum chassis and a white keyboard to complete its homage to the fruity company. No concept on pricing or availability, but you can bet your iPod collection that that will not come remotely close to what folks are willing to fork out for an actual Apple equivalent.

Adidas has entered the augmented reality (AR) fray with their latest footwear range known as the Originals AR Game Pack which comprises of a series of five shoe styles that boast AR cipher built right into the tongue. Whenever you hold your pair of shoes in front of the webcam, the cipher will unlock access to an area on Adidas’s website coupled with a series of interactive games, where your shoe doubles up as a game controller. construct certain that you have great smelling feet, otherwise it would be a stench to everyone else in the vicinity as you wave that sneaker around while gaming! New games will roll out monthly within February and April, where the entire series will be unveiled from February 10 onwards. The shoes are already available in the UK as well as a handful of other countries, while those of us living Stateside will be able to get it a day after Valentine’s.

CompleteSpeech has come up with the Palatometer, which is able to read how your tongue contacts the palate during speech. From there, it can help those with speech impediments learn how to speak properly. The palatometer will be placed in a person’s mouth, and the system will try to translate those mouth movements into words before reproducing them on a small sound synthesizer. Interesting tech, to say the least.

While an Alien figurine is certainly awesome, all that little Alien does is stick its illuminated tongue out at you. It might scare your 5 year old younger brother, but that’ll probably be about it.
