Just like the tablet market, we’re seeing a whole bunch of eBook readers being dumped into the eBook reader market. We previously brought your attention to the Kobo eReader from Borders, and the company has started to take pre-orders on the device. The American version of the Kobo eReader will be going on sale come June 17th and will be pre-loaded with 100 public domain books. The good thing about the Kobo eReader is that it won’t burn too big a gap in your wallet, as it’s priced at just $150. Aside from the eReader, Borders is planning to open its e-book store which should serve Kobo’s device, as well as offer apps for the iPad, Android and BlackBerry devices.

In a recent discussion, Motorola Co-CEO Sanjay Jha has confirmed that the cell phone giant is very engaged in the tablet arena and is still intimately involved in said market, causing speculation that Motorola would be interested in coming up with its own tablet device. While that is certainly a good tip that Motorola is keeping tabs on the tablet device industry, there isn’t any official confirmation that Motorola would be looking into coming up with its own tablet device just yet, but with so many major manufacturers gearing up to get a taste of the tablet scene, it’s not too farfetched to think that Motorola might eventually roll out a device to compete with the iPad.

There isn’t any official confirmation on that just yet, so we believe it should stay firmly in the rumor bin at the moment. It seems that in the latest episode of CNET’s Buzz Out Loud, it was said that Cisco is busy working on a 7-inch Android-powered tablet device, one that would most likely be used for business communication. While detailed specifications weren’t provided, rumored specifications include a front-facing camera, dual microphones with noise cancellation and possible support for Cisco-oriented features such as VPN access and WebEx for meetings. Do you think the tablet market need another device, or is it already getting crowded as it is?

Whenever someone talks about the tablet device market now, Apple’s iPad is invariably mentioned, and with such a popular device in the market already, you’d think that most manufacturers would be scared to pit a new device against it. That being said, Italian kitchenware manufacturer Alessi obviously thinks that it’s up to the challenge, as it’s planning to bring the AlessiTAB to market come September. The tablet looks quite sleek, designed by Stefano Giovannoni, and will feature social media applications such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as being able to double up as a digital photo frame. It will come bundled with a docking station, which is going to be useful, and boasts a 6-hour battery life. The AlessiTAB will be going for about EUR300 ($400). Check out a video of it in the full post.

Toshiba has confirmed that it’s planning to offer several devices, dubbed “slates” that will be powered by Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating systems. The Android-powered device will most likely be competing with Apple’s iPad, particularly when you take into explanation that it will be offering a 10-inch display and will feature a lower price point. The Windows-powered version will apparently be a higher-end model and the possibility of a dual-display feature. Let’s not forget that Toshiba isn’t a stranger to the tablet market, as the company already has the Journe Touch by in Europe, which is additionally a tablet-like device that runs on a version of Windows CE. It’s fairly safe to expect that Toshiba’s slates should be arriving sometime late that year or early 2011. Stay tuned!

The tablet market seems to be pretty interesting with many players jumping aboard the bandwagon, and the Hiton HT960 is yet another candidate that offers specifications which could idiot one into thinking that that is a netbook instead. For $418, you get 16GB of SSD storage, Windows XP as the operating system of choice, 3G wireless connectivity whether you decide to fork out another $80. What do you think of that device – is it a go, or no go?

MSI is plus ready to tackle the tablet market with word on a new 10″ tablet that will run on an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset. What does that mean for the casual user? We’re talking about a generally low ability device which translates to a decent battery life even when multi-tasking (Internet surfing, MP3 playing in the background, etc) on the device. DigiTimes claims that the MSI tablet will reach at selected markets sometime in the second half of the year, residing in the $500 price point region which would more or less pit it against the most basic iPad model. It will run on Google’s Android operating system, and a confirmed specification would be it being able to run full HD video at 1080p resolution. Hopefully issues like storage, memory and wireless connectivity options will be at least on par with the iPad whether it were to stand a chance in the growing tablet market.
