Nokia’s freshly-announced Car Kit CK-200 offers some rather useful functions, the most obvious which is its ability to connect to two devices at once and switch seamlessly among them whilst you’re busy driving. To further stand out, it can automatically download the phonebooks from both devices, as well as display new text messages that you receive. It additionally comes with a wireless remote which can be attached to the steering wheel for easy access, so you don’t have to fumble around your pockets just to reply a shout. There is additionally the inclusion of the My Own Key, allowing you to listen to a new SMS by your car’s speakers or send a pre-defined text info explaining why you can’t reply the signal. The CK-200 will be available that summer and should be retailing for about €140 ($182). Check out a video ad promoting the Nokia Car Kit CK-200 after the jump.

Drink driving is always a big no-no when it comes to safety, but whether you really have to do it, why not do it with the Octane 120 Beer Arcade from the comfort (and safety) of your own home? that system combines a sit-down arcade racing cockpit with a double-keg beer cooler. The best part is that there is a tap built into the dashboard, ensuring that you’ll never have to be thirsty. The steering wheel has a nice leather wrapping, and offers force feedback for those instances when you (inevitably) crash your car. It plus sports metal gas, clutch and brake pedals. It’ll come bundled with a 2000 lumen 1024 x 768 pixel resolution projector, 5.1 audio system, a 120-inch portable projection screen and a choice of a high-end gaming PC, PS3, or Xbox 360. For all those things, you’d expect to pay a pretty penny, and you’re right. The Octane 120 Beer Arcade will set you back $6995, so you’d better have some rather deep pockets.

A couple of gaming nerds managed to take a standard VW Scirocco and weaved some engineering magic into it, transforming it into a virtual simulator. All major controls in the car such as the steering wheel, gas and brake pedals, and gear stick have been attached to the in-game controls for that added touch of realism. Why the VW Scirocco, you ask? Well, all the controls are handled electronically instead of mechanically, making the transition a whole lot easier without causing any damage to the car. To top it off, a projector is mounted into the car and is complemented by an improved speaker system. Best of all is, you won’t need to fork out a individual cent for gas.

Scientists in Germany managed to come up with a new computer software which enables them to steer a car with nothing but their eyes. Dubbed the eyeDriver, that prototype software application will gather the driver’s eye movements via SMI’s HED4 (which is an upgraded bicycle helmet), where it will next get to work by converting said eye movements into control signals for the steering wheel. The helmet will hold a couple of cameras and an infrared LED, while remain connected to a notebook. You will still need to manually control the throttle and brakes though. Wives and girlfriends would love to have that as it is definitely a way to force their man to keep their eyes on the road and not on other eye candy.

Very rarely does an amphibious vehicle work well, but the Quill concept by British designer Halil Buzcuoglu is touted to move on both snow and land with equal efficiency. Capable of holding a couple of passengers comfortably, that conceptual ride comes with a large windscreen that gives way to an enhanced front view, where integrated cameras offer rear view vision. A joystick replaces the steering wheel while offering an undisturbed front vision simultaneously. Guess you can only sell that in selected parts of the world whether it ever comes to fruition, eh?

Designer Erik Lanuza has come up with the all-electric Taurus concept which functions as a compact, urban-targeted saddle-ridden vehicle which balances on a couple of wheels. Basically, it is a whole lot less nerdy than a Segway, and you drive it by leaning forwards or backwards in order to control the speed. It will be directed by the steering wheel as you get around. We guess that that runs off some sort of internal battery, but as to its range, we have absolutely no view.

Ford is currently purring by the sales figures of its Ford SYNC, as the company’s popular voice-controlled communications and infotainment system has now been installed on more than 2 million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Making the deal sweeter is the fact that the first SYNC systems were delivered in fall 2007, and it only took Ford 10 months since it delivered its 1-millionth SYNC-equipped vehicle to break the 2-million barrier. The Ford SYNC was built on the Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive software platform, and allows users to control devices such as mobile phones and digital media players via simple voice commands, the vehicle’s steering wheel, or radio controls.

By now you’ve certainly seen those steering wheel accessories for the iPhone or iPod touch. The iDrift is a concept steering wheel accessory for the iPad, and we’re certain that there will be many more in line after that. The downside is that that accessory looks like it’s going to take up some space in your backpack, since it has to be large decent to accommodate the iPad. But whether you’re into gaming, you’re willing to sacrifice, right?

So you’ve got an iPhone and love to play with all of its multitouch features? Well, here is some food for thought – that specific Lego hack throws in a steering wheel into the mix, allowing you to enjoy your favorite tilt-to-steer racing games like never before. While that view might inspire third party iPhone peripheral manufacturers to come up with their own range of similar products, there is no greater satisfaction (and geek cred) than to build your own. Forgive the title typo in the YouTube video page though. Word!
