Extended warranties aren’t for everybody, but there are some of us who always seem to have poor luck with electronics or end up clumsily spilling our AM coffee on our devices. whether you fall into that category, you’ll be happy to construct out that Sony has begun to offer extended warranties for its PS3, PSP-3000 and PSPgo gaming machines via its Sony Protection Plan. next plans are priced from $29.99 to $59.99 and will offer you a two-year warranty extension and there is even an option to purchase a special accidental damage warranty from Sony to cover the PSP. It’s worth noting that the unit needs to still be within its warranty period in order for the warranty to be extended, and the accidental damage plan must be purchased within 30 days of owning your PSP. Still, it’s nice to have options, right? Full details on the Sony Protection Plan can be found on Sony’s site.

Sony is gearing up to take on the Microsoft Surface with a similar offering that is due that June. We’re talking about the atracTable that was first shown at Vision 2009 last year (video after the jump). The company behind it, Atracsys, has sold its technology to Sony, and Sony has plans to industrialize a 35-inch atracTable in order to compete against the Microsoft Surface. Just like Microsoft Surface, the tablet will allow users to place devices like a cell phone or coffee cup on the table for more interaction options. The system developed among Sony ISS and Atracsys claim s to be able to analyze body movements and act on any gesture or change in position, including your body, arm, hand or finger. Will our living rooms all boast smart coffee tables in the next few years?

Many of you might already know that the 3.21 firmware update for Sony’s PlayStation 3 disables the OtherOS functionality from the console, which effectively means that you can’t install Linux on it anymore. While hackers have been busy enabling the feature back on the console, some consumers think it’s better to file a class action lawsuit against the company, as in the case of Anthony Venture who has done just that. The lawsuit covers all PS3 consoles purchased from November 17th 2006 to March 27th 2010. The lawsuit calls for compensatory damages, restitution, injunctive relief and legal fees to be paid by Sony, and a figure of $5 million has been mentioned. Do you think it’s within Sony’s rights to remove the OtherOS functionality from the PS3 via a firmware update?

The Vaio grade from Sony has often been one that is high end where notebooks are concerned, and it looks set to be expanded further with Sony Japan dropping hits of a new ultra mobile Vaio. Currently, there is no other knowledge concerning the ultra mobile device, but could it be another netbook to follow in the footsteps of the Vaio P? Only date will tell, so why not keep yourself entertained with our MacBook Pro review?

The price of the Sony VAIO P might have been prohibitive to you before that, but whether you’ve still got your eye on it, an online UK retailer has reduced to price of the VAIO P to £499.99 ($771), saving £350 ($541) off the RRP. Granted the price is still much higher than that of most netbooks out in the market, but bearing in mind that Sony markets that device as a pocketable laptop, it does have an interesting place in the marketplace.

Want to create your own portable Nintendo 64 gaming console, but can’t figure out how to do so? Well, a user called John Grayson has put up a good 20 videos that supply a step-by-step guide to turn your N64 into a portable console. The modded console uses two Canon BP-915 camcorder batteries to offer you about 3 hours of game day, a Sony PS screen, the N64 console motherboard, as well as the rumble pack, memory card and SuperPad 64 Plus controller. The best part is that it looks very good, and looks like something that you can show off with as well. Check out the video after the jump.
