Offering Apple’s iPhone always seems to put a strain on any carrier’s network, as AT&T found out the hard way. Now Vodafone UK might be feeling the pinch too, as the carrier has confirmed, via its forum, that it’s planning to impose some new charges from June 1st onwards. While the carrier will still be offering 500MB of documents with any bundle plan worth £25 or more, but users who go past the 500MB threshold will be charged £5 for every additional 500MB that they use. Folks who are on a plan that doesn’t include any details will be charged 50p for every 10MB of documents by the basic 25MB. While £5 isn’t a lot of money, nobody likes having to shell out additional moolah, particularly since the carrier previously had 500MB as a fair use threshold, but didn’t charge or throttle the connection unless it started to create problems on the network. Are you comfortable with these new charges, or do you think that it’s a poor deal?

Acer looks set to roll out its new range of Mobile Web Devices (MIDs) sometime later that May, where they will be a logical follow up on their patent application which was filed all the way back in January last year. The Taiwanese company did not mention just precisely what these MIDs are capable of, although they have confirmed that it will run on version 4.0 of their Shell UI. Shell UI is a layer that was applied by Windows Mobile on smartphones, and the latest version will hopefully appeal to users at the home stretch. No view on whether Shell UI 4.0 will be built on top of Windows Mobile though, but since May is slightly more than a month away, we are ready and willing to wait.

The MiLi potential Skin case offers something different from your regular iPhone case – not only does it offer decent protection against bumps and knocks, it additionally juices up your device. Yup, that is made possible thanks to the integration of a 1,200-mAH lithium polymer battery that is located in its already super slim shell, while offering unhindered access to ports and jacks at the same day. Since the mini USB/USB plugs directly into the case when it is on your iPhone, you won’t need to remove it for syncing or charging expectations. Available in eight two-color combinations, the MiLi capability Skin will retail for $69.95.

If you’re looking for a fancy gadget to manufacture your iPhone look like it came from another planet, the microRemote from Redrock Micro will probably fit the bill. It’s essentially a focus ring detached from the DSLR that it controls, and can be operated just like that, but whether you pop in an iPhone or iPod touch, it suddenly gains superpowers. Fire up the included app and you’ll get aperture, zoom and some focusing assists to help you get the perfect shot. You can be certain that you’ll look like James Bond using one of these, though you’ll need to be willing to shell out the $1,000 asking price for one of these come summer.

As for the iDock XL, that self-contained video viewer allows one to dock an iPhone or iPod in a crevice located right below the 10″ LCD display with 800 x 480 resolution. It is semi-portable, and carries its own battery which means it can handle up to 4 hours of video playback. Expect the iDock XL to be out that May with a £149 price point, while the iDock Aero will reach a month later for £149. Image from Engadget.

The Vaio Z Series has been re-introduced by Sony at CES 2010 to spearhead its laptop line-up. It is supposed to be the best Sony can offer. It blends raw ability and ultra portability in a good looking shell that encompasses a carved aluminum core. In 2010, Sony updated the Z Series with Intel’s latest Core i7 and Core i5 processors, making the new Vaio Z much more vigorous, while keeping the same slim design, and reducing the 3.4lbs of the previous model to a mere 3.07lbs. To produce it even more vigorous, Sony has decided to ditch mechanical hard drives in favor of zippy fast SSD storage. In that review, we’re taking a deep look at the Sony Vaio Z to tell you how it feels to use that ultra-light laptop and whether the reality lives up to the specifications on paper.

Is Amazon feeling the pressure from the impending launch of Apple’s iPad? While we can’t be entirely certain whether the company is feeling the heat or not, what we do know is that Amazon has begun to shell out money to run ads for its Kindle, and those ads have been slotted into prime moment on major channels, hinting that Amazon is ready to go all out to get maximum exposure. Apple’s iPad ad is getting some real good exposure at the moment, so it‘ll be interesting to see how well Amazon’s ad do in light of that. The eBook reader war is just about to heat up, isn’t it? Check out the ads in the full write-up.

If you’re still moping by the lack of PalmOS devices in the market, it seems that the iPhone can come to the rescue again, as StyleTap is now available for the iPhone. The catch is that you’ll need to install it through Cydia, which means jailbreaking your iPhone, not to mention that you’ll need to shell out $49.99 for the app. Of course, that’s probably a small price to pay in order to be able to use your favorite PalmOS applications again. Would you jailbreak your iPhone just to install that?
