OnLive Game Service out that June 17

Mark June 17 on your calendars as that would be when the OnLive 'Games-on-Demand' service powered by cloud-servers arrives. Steve Perlman and Mike McGarvey, founders of OnLive, has taken the opportunity to announce the subscription plans for the service for both PCs and Macs, albeit only for folks living in the US, with no word on availability and their respective subscription plans for the European region at the moment. What is OnLive? It is a 'Games on Demand' service powered by Cloud-servers and based on subscription model. The moment you access the huge library of games, you can play them instantly by the Web without having to nag about system compatibility and going through the whole tedious installation process. With 720p HD quality video gaming, expect to spend more day cooped up at home now. For more context, check out our hands-on of the OnLive Game Service at last year's GDC.

iTamtam docking stool, touch screen accuracy, Nuance updates iPhone app

January 12, 2010

Reports have been coming out that the iPhone touchscreen may be more accurate than the touchscreens used on other devices like Android mobile phones. The study was conducted by the MOTO Development Group.

If you like strange iPod docks iTamtam may have one for you. The dock is a stool with four tweeters and a sub inside that play music from the docked iPod.

Nuance has updated its Dragon iPhone app to stop it from uploading your contacts list to their servers. The bigger issue for me was the app didn’t do well at all for recognizing my voice.

Popbox: a media portal for local and web content

Popbox: a media portal for local and web content

[CES 2010] Syabas Technology just launched Popbox, a set top box that aims at being a portal to your home (networked) composition but plus for web subject matter. The box itself is quite small (7" long) but packs a video processor that should be capable of decoding the most demanding 1080p video files. It is fanless, so it will be absolutely silent, and it consumes only 15W. As a network device, Popbox will scan the composition that is shared from your other computers or some servers. You will have access to your media files from your TV. Popbox supports an impressive array of formats and protocols (the list is at the end of that article).

Awesome 64 picture-in-picture demo

Awesome 64 picture-in-picture demo

We’re not certain how often you like to switch channels, but whether you’re greedy and want to watch all the channels at once, check out the picture above, which shows 64 channels in each display. Unfortunately that isn’t so high-tech TV, it’s basically 64 instances of VLC media windows tiled to run at once, and it’s really a company’s attempt to show off the fact that it can optimize its servers to work with multiple streams. It still looks awesome though.
