When folks talk about biometric sensors, you’d more or less think about fingerprint scanners, but Apple has a rather novel way to identify users. In a recent patent filing, it seems that the fruity company has an view to integrate cardiac sensors into the iPhone, so the phone is able to monitor your heart rhythm and identify the person holding the device. possibly with that is place, it’d be an easy way to secure your iPhone from prying eyes, since your phone would be able to tell when you (and not someone else) is holding the phone. whether you like details, you can check out the full patent filing.

The smart folks in that world seem to be focusing a lot of energy into getting robots into our homes, and the folks at the Advanced Control Lab at National Taiwan University have come up with a household entertainment robot called JULIA that can sing and even dance. Users will be able to interact with JULIA via voice commands or touchscreen. The display on JULIA is able to display various kinds of info from your home media server. You could even upgrade your house with sensors to turn it into a smart home environment that is capable of communicating with the robot, allowing JULIA to perform guard duty when you’re away from home. Would you be comfortable with a robot moseying around your home when you’re away?

Designer Igor Chak has taken the Izh-1 motorbike and refreshed it with a futuristic update, claiming that that two-wheeler sports more safety features compared to 10 Volvos combined, where it will invent riding on the highways and byways a whole lot safer than walking. Among the safety features that you can expect to see within include dual front airbags, a type of crumple zone for front-on crashes, a radar system, on-board cameras for better and safer braking distances, traction control and ABS. The bike is plus smart sufficient to know when you have applied its brakes suddenly, while proximity side sensors help you detect blind spots, with vibrating handlebars that warn riders of potential collisions. Heck, it can even connect to a compatbile cellphone for you to reply phone calls sans using your hand, although that will happen only when you are stationary. We don’t think that concept will materialize anytime soon though.

LG Innotek is the supplier behind the 5-megapixel camera sensor that will see action in the upcoming iPhone 4G that is touted to ship later that spring. According to The Chosun, LG Innotek will start “producing the sophisticated cameras at its plant in Gumi that month and will mass produce them starting in the second half of that year.” Of course, there were whispers in the past concerning OmniVision as the supplier of cameras instead, but at least we do know a 5-megapixel camera is in the works alongside a built-in LED flash to capture better quality images in low light conditions.

The smart researchers by at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada are busy working on a new type of flexible display. Code-named Cobra, it works by combining a wearable computer and shoulder-mounted pico-projector coupled with a flexible display that has flex-sensing wires and sensors. What that means is that users will be able to interact with the system via the screen itself. In theory, you could bend a corner back and release it to simulate the shooting of an arrow or casting a fishing line. It’s pretty cool, and it’ll be interesting whether that technology became mainstream in the gaming market.

Robots are slowly taking by the world, whether we like it or not, and now Shenyang Siasun Robot & Automation Co. Ltd. has come up with the Family Nanny Robot. As its name implies, it’ll be able to help you with your household when you’re not around. Its environmental sensors are able to detect a gas leak and contact its owner via text report or e mail. It’s additionally positioned as an elder care robot, thanks to its ability to chat with the elderly and do check-ups via its large display and camera. It’s able to operate for up to 8 hours on a 2-hour charge and is slated to be available in about 5-years instance for about 10,000 Yuan ($1,500).

The Japanese are at the forefront of cutting edge technology most of the instance, and we do have word that they are working on a new project that involves mind control of consumer home products including air conditioners, where sensors will be able to tell from the body temperature in a room and build the appropriate adjustments to the temperature. Guess whether you start to feel as though you were about to freeze your family jewels off, your brain will inform the home system to increase the temperature, since pressing the button on the air conditioner’s remote control up by a few notches would be too much work, eh?

Are you a health caregiver in your home, or do you just keep additional close tabs on your current health condition so that you can sleep easy at night, knowing you’ve done your best to remain healthy? The Home EKG Monitor might help you as that FDA-approved handheld cordless device allows you to monitor your heart’s rhythm without having to go to the good doctor’s office. that is made possible thanks to a quartet of integrated sensors which will supply an instantaneous EKG reading as lengthy as you hold the unit in one hand while pressing it against the palm of your other hand. All recorded info can be uploaded to a PC using the included USB cable for future reference. A couple of AAA batteries ought to be good for up to 400 readings with that $199.95 device.

The German research institute Fraunhofer IZM has stumbled upon something that might just revolutionize the medical industry – they are about to stumble upon success for a lab-on-a-chip design which is smart decent to diagnose deep vein thrombosis from a solitary drop of blood. Talk about amazing, it can plus double up as a wristband which measures your body temperature, skin moisture and electromagnetic radiation courtesy of plastic chips and sensors that measure all of a few micrometers thin. Even more impressive is the fact that these tiny miracles can be printed in reels and sheets! Hopefully they will be cheap decent for the layman to use!
