If you’re concerned about the environment and your capability usage at home, Google seems to think that comparing potential usage might be favorable. With that in mind, you’ll probably want to check out Google PowerMeter, which you can activate on your personalized iGoogle page. Google PowerMeter will allow you to share your documents with others and compare your energy usage with each other. Google’s blog cites a case where a user noted that his home air-conditioning system was consuming a lot more energy than his friend’s system, and both lived in the same area with similar sized houses. that led him to find out that his air conditioner was malfunctioning. Can you think of any scenarios at home where Google PowerMeter might be favorable to you?

Official blog post.

If you’re looking for a new replacement 1.8-inch drive for your netbook, it’ll be worth your moment to take a few minutes to peek at the Active SaberTooth ZT 1.8-inch PATA ZIF SSD, which is available in capacities of 32GB and 64GB. With read speeds up to 100MB/sec and write speeds up to 85MB/sec (thanks to a DRAM cache), it should be speedy ample for you to go about your business. The lack of moving parts means that the SaberTooth ZT is rugged suitable to be used in industrial scenarios, or embedded and network computing applications. Since it has the same physical dimensions as your standard 1.8-inch hard drives, replacing your current 1.8-inch drive with the SaberTooth ZT shouldn’t be an issue. It’s currently available on Amazon for $169.95 (32GB) and $299.95 (64GB).

Don’t you hate it when you’re walking down the street (or corridor) and as you turn the corner, someone else is plus coming out from the corner, and you end up with that awkward situation when you’re both trying to get out of each other’s way? Well, whether the Corner’s Communication Warning Sign becomes a reality and is implemented everywhere, we might be able to kiss such scenarios goodbye. When implemented, it will emit a little sound and light up when it senses that someone is approaching from around the bend, allowing you to be a little more wide-awake when taking a corner, thus avoiding the awkward confrontation. It sounds simple, but it might just be the solution that you’ve been looking for

Have you ever accidentally left a hot iron on some clothing, only to come back to find that it has a nice iron-shaped gap in it? whether the Roly Poly Iron becomes a reality, such scenarios might just fade into the past. With that design, when the iron is left on its own without anybody holding it, the moving weight that is in the handle rocks to the back of the iron, which tips it backwards, avoiding the ugly scenario mentioned above. When you want to use it again, just grab a hold of the handle, tipping the weight back to the front of the iron, and put it directly back into use.

You can read Microsoft’s description of the project:

It is a novel interaction system for mobile computing. Our goal is to bring Microsoft Surface experience to mobile scenarios, and more importantly, to enable 3D interaction with mobile devices. We do research on how to convert any surface (e.g., a coffee table or a piece of paper) to Mobile Surface with a mobile device and a camera-projector system. Besides that, our work additionally includes how to get 3D object model in real-time, augmented reality and multiple-layer 3D knowledge presentation.

Microsoft Research Blog post

We have published on several rumors of Surface-like projects from Microsoft during the recent years, one was codenamed Oahu, which would bring a more affordable multitouch table computer to the consumers, and the other one was the Courier tablet which is, according to Mary Jo Foley, unlikely to debut as a real product until 2011 at the earliest.

For years, NVIDIA has kept eye on the potential of external graphics accelerators, although nothing concrete is mentioned just yet. Many questions still need to be answered including whether the size of its target market is large sufficient to invent such a venture feasible. While there are many scenarios to be considered, we think that the market is effectively very small. The Future of portable computing is definitely not adding stuff via an external PCI-E bus. whether NVIDIA sees an market opportunity, it can deliver a product very quickly, after all external GPUs are just like PCI-E based ones. Would you get one and at what price?

It seems like there is literally a never ending stream of iPhone apps being churned out, and next up is the Gorillacam, an iPhone app which is rather rare, since it’s coming from an accessory maker. It’s free, and will probably be good advertising for the GorillaPod, and fortunately you can use it even whether you don’t own (or use) a GorillaPod. The functions of that app are more geared towards tripod scenarios (obviously) and you’ll get functions like grid lines, press-anywhere shutter release, self-timer and many more.

It looks like that flashlight with video camera is an update to the previous one that we reported on a while back. build with durable aluminum, that flashlight allows you to record both audio and video.
