RIM has been busy sending out scheduled maintenance notifications to admins and carriers as the folks behind the ever popular BlackBerry are preparing to roll out BIS 3.0 to North American users. While you can expect there to be a bit of turbulence, hopefully it won’t affect too many humans, as most folks should be sleeping during that timeframe anyways. Let’s wait and see what happens, and hopefully the transition will be painless. Details and timeframe of the maintenance include:

A tidbit of data has just surfaced today, from an interview with the CEO of a RIM parts supplier (Woojeon & Handan). Apparently RIM will be launching a make new BlackBerry “T” phone next month, which is aimed at competing with the iPhone (don’t all the phones already do that?) While it’s not entirely certain what the “T” could stand for, but speculation is that it could indicate the previously hinted codename “Talladega”. Do you have any theories that you think are possible?

RIM had previously mentioned that it would be making the BlackBerry Push APIs available to all developers for free in the first half of 2010, and it seems that the company is going to build good on that promise by offering two levels of push services. that is additionally great news for the end user, as while applications out there already produce use of push services, the services cost quite a bit for developers to implement, so with the latest offerings, developers should be able to cut down the cost of their applications, or perhaps even offer them for free. The push services offered are:

BlackBerry Push Essentials – is a free service that developers can incorporate into their applications and allows them to push composition to their customers with unparalleled immediacy.

BlackBerry Push Plus – which has a free tier and paid tiers, provides developers with notification that their push has been delivered. whether a composition provider needs to get info to someone, they can tell whether the target device has received the push.

Blackberry Push Service.

There is no confirmation of a new BlackBerry slider smartphone from RIM, but such a handset has a very high chance of being introduced in due moment. Apparently, it will be a portrait-oriented slider that will run on the BlackBerry 6.0 operating system, boasting support for Wi-Fi 802.11n connectivity. Strangely suitable, the resolution remains in the dark ages at 360 × 480 pixels. No view on whether that is a touchscreen display handset, so we’ll just have to wait until the device rolls out officially.

Looks like RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry Pearl 9100 has already been spotted despite not being released officially just yet, with whispers that it will be available from T-Mobile in the US or Wind in Canada. We do know that the Pearl 9100 will support WCDMA bands I, IV and VIII – which translates to 2100MHz, 1700MHz (AWS) and 900MHz. Having said that, a logical conclusion would point towards T-Mobile and Wind since they’re the only North American carriers which rely on the 1700MHz spectrum. Features of the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 include 3G support, a SureType QWERTY keypad, Wi-Fi connectivity, an optical trackpad and a camera with LED flash.

RIM has come up to guarantee BlackBerry users that they managed to resolve e mail issues having investigated the source of the problem. From yesterday’s release :-

“RIM has isolated and resolved the issue that was impacting some BlackBerry customers earlier that daylight. Some customers may still experience delays as newsletter queues are processed. RIM is continuing to investigate the cause of the issue and apologizes for any inconvenience.”

It does invent us wonder just how many businesses and lives were affected with each e mail outage. Anyhows, it is always good to have a backup mail just in case things like that happen, ya know?
