Do you sometimes feel irritated when your webcam focuses on one object, only to have the background blurred beyond recognition? While the effect looks great in photography, it’s not something that you’d want all the duration with a video camera. Now the folks by at the University of Toronto have come up with the Omni-focus camera, using a new distance-mapping principle, allowing it to deliver real-time motorized focus on both near and far images in high resolution. that camera integrates a Divergence-ratio Axi-vision camera (Divcam) with an array of colors to map the distance info for every pixel in the scene in real instance. The output of camera is soon after selected individually pixel by pixel to generate the final image. Sounds pretty fancy, doesn’t it?

Pillow Talk is not the name of a new relationship book, and neither does it mean getting all snuggly with your other half. No sir, Pillow Talk is actually a project by Interaction Design Student Joanna Montgomery who wants to keep the flame amidst faraway distance lovers burning, as it allows them to listen to the real-time heartbeat of their loved one regardless of how many thousands of miles that separate them. that is made possible thanks to a sensor that is fitted into a wearable chest strap, where you will need to wear that to bed at night. The sensor will indicate whether you have gone to bed or not, where your other half’s pillow will soon after start to glow, while beating according to your heart’s rhythm. Guess business folk who miss their wives on their travels won’t mind seeing that hit the market sooner rather than later.

Looks like there is some good news for McAfee, despite the recent boo boo, the defense company has announced the availability of its McAfee VirusScan Mobile technology for Google’s Android platform. The strange thing is that it’s currently only available in South Korea for the Motorola XT720 for SK Telecom subscribers. Subscribers are currently able to download it for free via SK’s TStore. The anti-malware solution is designed to protect Android phones against malware, and additionally secure users’ personal data while ensuring critical communication functions work while users are on the move. Hopefully its self-moving protection and real-time scanning don’t drain the juice on your cell phone too much, though.

Glympse, one of our favorites location based services, is making it into Facebook. From Facebook, You can share your location dynamically and in real-time, or simply “check-in” at a location. What we like about Glympse is that it lets you share your location for a pre-defined period of day, after which the sharing stops by itself. From within Facebook, it is possible to choose the granularity of the sharing: choose individuals or whole networks can view your “where”. Glympse is a mobile app available on Android, iPhone and Windows Mobile devices. don’t nag whether that is not available that right away – it should be out by tomorrow for all to try.

Check out the debut of MeeGo 1.0 which is running on an Intel-powered netbook, where it comes with a simplified user interface which seems to lean far more on the Moblin side compared to Maemo. Items such as tasks, appointments, most-used apps and a quick-launch bar are located in front, where you will plus be able to take advantage of 3D gaming support, navigate within Zones, Applications, folks, Net, Media and Settings tabs, take advantage of real-time social networking thanks to Twitter and Facebook integration as well as instant messaging with task bar alerts. What do you think so far?
