LEDs on Ikea coffee table

Check out that ordinary Ikea coffee table which has been hacked to include a whole bunch of LEDs - we're talking about 6,144 of these in total. Tobias, the brain and hands behind that mod, sourced a trio of display boards from certain Electronics for a total of 96 8×8 modules. These boards rely on a serial interface to be addressed, where a quartet of serial lines are used for each board although a shared details bus for each of the row choose pins and the data/latch/clock pins. Definitely worth checking out whether you're into DIY goodness to enhance the overall look of your home.

Sony VAIO EC specifications updated

One must wonder whether the executives from Sony borrowed a page from Asus' book by convoluting the naming convention of the once simple-to-understand VAIO line? Apart from the VAIO EB which was unveiled a few weeks ago, along comes the VAIO EC which sports improved specifications including a scratch resistant HD LCD display, the latest Intel Core i3 or i5 processor, up to 6GB RAM, up to 1TB of storage space, eSATA capability, a quartet of USB ports, ATI-powered graphics and a multi-touch touchpad. More details on that should hit the Sony US website soon.

Apple files patent to address heat issues

While we don't know how many patents does Apple own, we do know that the company recently showed off a quartet of new patent applications that week which were filed a couple of years ago which aim to address issues concerning ability consumption and heat generation. In the patent application, it reads, "Heat dissipation is an crucial consideration in the design of such electronic devices. whether that heat is not adequately dissipated, the electronic components may fail and/or cause damage to the electronic device." While Apple products have not been known to overheat, it is good to see the fruity company do its part to keep things running cool and efficiently.

So you're into touchscreen gaming, but there are still many others out there who feel that an old school controller would work better with some games on the iPhone. Enter the iControlPad which will finally enter the mass production stage, where one gets a quartet of buttons, two analog sticks as well as a D-Pad for you to pull off those zany moves in the upcoming Street Fighter IV title for the platform. One specific model even comes with an internal battery that will supply additional juice for your iPhone when you need it. There is one drawback though - your iPhone will need to be jailbroken beforehand whether you want the iControlPad to work with it.

Wacom Cintiq 21UX tablet

Wacom thinks that bigger is better with the 21" Cintiq 21UX tablet which is touted to offer better pen performance and ergonomics, featuring the new Grip Pen which has Wacom's new Tip Sensor technology which requires virtually no pressure at all to start painting, making it feel all the more natural. You get the usual 2,048 levels of pressure which is the new standard and double that of its predecessor, while eight programmable keys grace each side of the tablet by the bezel. A couple of touch strips on the sides of the tablet work like mini-trackpads that can be used for a quartet of functions according to the application being used.
