[DEMO Spring 2010] Flinc leverage the mobile phone location-based capabilities to connect passengers and drivers who want to carpool with a financial compensation for the car owners. The service can be used on smart phones or online: it analyzes the traffic in real instance, allows passengers to identity available seats in cars belonging to the drives in their network, lets them send ask to be picked up, enables real day confirmation by the drivers and sends directions notification for pick-up. Dynamic ridesharing might one of the solutions to reduce our carbon footprint, save money on gas and parking and benefiting from more flexibility than public transportation. I have already seen a dynamic ridesharing system at DEMOFall 08: Avego by Mapflow, a company based in Ireland. Flinc comes from Germany, and I will ask them how they compare to their Irish competitor.

Will we have a companion vehicle to take with us when we’re on public transportation next year? The CMYK folding bike certainly looks like it can manufacture that a reality. The bike can be folded up in a few easy steps, and the 110 volt battery is decent to ability the bike for about 50 minutes after a 2-hour charge. The CMYK is scheduled to hit the market somewhere in 2010, and will set you back around $600 to $800. Keep an eye on that, and we’ll keep you posted.

Wireless Dynamics has announced iCarte, an iPhone add-on that adds NFC and RFID capabilities (read and write) to the iPhone. that could be used in many ways, like contact-less micro-payments, public transportation tickets and knowledge gathering (ads, promos…). NFC is very popular in countries like Japan. In France, the subway system is equipped with NFC to replace paper tickets. Last summer, there were rumors that Apple would integrate NFC in the next iPhone, and whether that was the case, Wireless Dynamic might be able to build on the momentum with iCarte. that product uses a smart chip from NXP Semiconductors. They too would benefit from the NFC boom predicted by some.
