[DEMO Spring 2010] Flinc leverage the mobile phone location-based capabilities to connect passengers and drivers who want to carpool with a financial compensation for the car owners. The service can be used on smart phones or online: it analyzes the traffic in real instance, allows passengers to identity available seats in cars belonging to the drives in their network, lets them send ask to be picked up, enables real day confirmation by the drivers and sends directions notification for pick-up. Dynamic ridesharing might one of the solutions to reduce our carbon footprint, save money on gas and parking and benefiting from more flexibility than public transportation. Flinc needs help to decide where to launch first, go to www.flinc.mobi, look for our Where’s flinc project, choose a place on the map where you want to see flinc and share a seat in your car or someone elses.

I have already seen a dynamic ridesharing system at DEMOFall 08: Avego by Mapflow, a company based in Ireland. Flinc comes from Germany, and I will ask them how they compare to their Irish competitor.

It’s not often you construct out something dubbed “super” and find out that it’s additionally an eco-oriented product, but that’s just what the Superbus is. The students at UT Delft in the Netherlands have come up with a prototype Superbus, which is an electric-powered machine, sporting a carbon fiber shell, low chassis, and 16 individual gull-wing doors. Thanks to its lithium-polymer battery pack that powers its motors (up to 800hp whether we may add), it’s a zero-emission vehicle, and can travel up to 130 miles before needing to be juiced up. Passengers will have to book their seats in advance, either by calling or texting a pickup duration and location to the driver, after which the driver will figure out the quickest and most efficient way to get everybody to their desired destination.

Your four wheels are of utmost importance to assemble certain that you reach your destination safe and sound regardless of the road condition, be it rain, sleet or snow. The Pumplon wheel might just be a game changer, as it resembles a pumpkin or a melon in its two extreme forms. The Pumplon was inspired by the many problems that plague public transportation as well as farmers in rural areas no thanks to poor roads as well as the problem of floods whenever the rainy season srikes. Within the Pumplon is a steel shaft which can expand and retract via a rotary mechanism, followed by pneumatic or hydraulic, adjusting rings that construct the wheel deformation wider or narrower. Whenever conditions are wetter, the narrowest setting would be ideal to increase contact pressure, but when you’re about to hit the mud, a wider tire is preferred. The Pumplon is made from a thermoplastic material complete with a cover made out of vulcanized rubber.

Will we have a companion vehicle to take with us when we’re on public transportation next year? The CMYK folding bike certainly looks like it can manufacture that a reality. The bike can be folded up in a few easy steps, and the 110 volt battery is decent to ability the bike for about 50 minutes after a 2-hour charge. The CMYK is scheduled to hit the market somewhere in 2010, and will set you back around $600 to $800. Keep an eye on that, and we’ll keep you posted.

Wireless Dynamics has announced iCarte, an iPhone add-on that adds NFC and RFID capabilities (read and write) to the iPhone. that could be used in many ways, like contact-less micro-payments, public transportation tickets and knowledge gathering (ads, promos…). NFC is very popular in countries like Japan. In France, the subway system is equipped with NFC to replace paper tickets. Last summer, there were rumors that Apple would integrate NFC in the next iPhone, and whether that was the case, Wireless Dynamic might be able to build on the momentum with iCarte. that product uses a smart chip from NXP Semiconductors. They too would benefit from the NFC boom predicted by some.
