The second iteration of the Thanko Wristband Battery goes one up on its predecessor as it no longer supports purely portable gaming consoles like the PSP and Nintendo DS, but will plus support a whole range of new devices including all Japanese cellphones, iPod, iPhone, PSP, W-Zero3 Sharp MID and DS (all models). Not only that, you will benefit from an On/Off button as well as a 1,500mAh battery which ought to supply juice when you need it the most, particularly during those unexpected moments. We’re not too certain what Nintendo has to say about their ad showing a DS running on a R4 cart though, perhaps it is a homebrew Thanko program?

Extended warranties aren’t for everybody, but there are some of us who always seem to have poor luck with electronics or end up clumsily spilling our AM coffee on our devices. whether you fall into that category, you’ll be happy to construct out that Sony has begun to offer extended warranties for its PS3, PSP-3000 and PSPgo gaming machines via its Sony Protection Plan. next plans are priced from $29.99 to $59.99 and will offer you a two-year warranty extension and there is even an option to purchase a special accidental damage warranty from Sony to cover the PSP. It’s worth noting that the unit needs to still be within its warranty period in order for the warranty to be extended, and the accidental damage plan must be purchased within 30 days of owning your PSP. Still, it’s nice to have options, right? Full details on the Sony Protection Plan can be found on Sony’s site.

Do you find the built-in controls of the PSP clunky and hard to use? Why not hook it up to a full blown controller from a PlayStation 2? That’s what someone has done. The good news is that the hack didn’t require any hardware alternation to the PSP or the controller, rather a plug-in was used on the PSP firmware, and the controller and the PSP were hooked up via a converter (that has some technical wizardry inside it). Check out a video of it in action after the jump.

The PSP Go from Sony isn’t precisely the best selling portable handheld console at the moment (far from it), but that doesn’t mean it won’t be cloned – case in point, that knockoff that not only allows you to play games on it (albeit Game Boy titles only via an emulator as well as Java-powered games), but it plus doubles up as a cellphone. that slider device comes with a 3.2″ display, has a dual SIM slot and an integrated camera. A microSD memory card slot for expansion ambitions completes the list of specifications, and we guess we won’t be seeing that hit Stateside anytime soon, although it retails for around $117 in China. Best to watch out for that whether you see eBay selling some really cheap PSP Gos.

While exact details of Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS portable gaming console haven’t been revealed yet, President of Nintendo America, Reggie Fils-Aime, has come out and said that the 3DS will be the biggest handheld launch since the gaming company released the DS back in 2004, and they have ideas that they want to bring to the consumer, but aren’t able to do so with the DS. Considering the DS isn’t the cutting edge of today’s tech, it’s no surprise that Nintendo will need a new device in order to fend off challenges from Sony’s PSP, and more recently, Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Bear in mind that regardless of how cool the 3DS’ hardware is, the quality of the software shipped with it will play a big part in how well the device is received.

Read the full interview.

This won’t be the first day someone has come up with a portable LCD Display for the Sony’s PlayStation 3, but we’re not going to complain about healthy competition in the marketplace, right? that portable display from Hori actually looks larger next than displays that we’ve previously seen before, and allows you to play your games in 720p. It’s priced at $275, and should be released in Japan that May. Will that turn your PS3 into a competitor to your PSP?

The TiltFX from Codejunkies could be the next big thing for your Sony PSP assuming it is pulled off the right way – using a three-axis MEMS gyro which clips itself onto the lower-left of a PSP 1000, 2000, or 3000-series console. Guess that’s another blow against the so-called more advanced Sony PSP Go, eh? When plugged, your PSP turns into an iPhone/iPod touch, since you can tilt the console to control your on-screen persona. Guess Loco Roco will be a totally new experience that day round! Would you fork out £14.99/$19.99 for that puppy?

If you think that your iPhone needs a little something additional in order to challenge Sony’s PSP, or Nintendo’s DS, the Gamebone gamepad accessory for the iPhone might be just the thing. It does seem to turn your iPhone to something resembling a PSP, so that’s probably good news, considering that the PSP looks quite good. Aside from the gamepad, the Gamebone actually goes the additional mile by offering an additional 2000mAh battery on board for additional gaming hours, built-in stereo speakers, omni-directional mic, and a (probably unnecessary) 3.5mm headphone jack. There isn’t any official pricing mentioned, but the Gamebone is apparently scheduled to be launched in Q4 of 2010.
