When you talk of an ultra-thin notebook, Apple’s MacBook Air and Dell’s Adamo XPS would automatically come to mind. Now it seems that Toshiba wants to be included in that elite group as well, as a recent leak reveals. According to the leak, Toshiba is planning to churn out a system that will be powered by Intel’s Core i7 processor but still be small ample to fit into the ultra-thin category, thanks to some exotic cooling and construction. It will be using a system dubbed “Mountain Blaze” to lower the heat, and would be made out of a unibody, honeycomb structure, ensuring that it’s still hard, despite its dimensions. The system is targeted to weigh 2.4 pounds and will sport a 512GB SSD and could possibly be the first notebook to use Toshiba’s SCiB battery. whether everything works out hunky dory, the system would be shipping sometime that summer and could offer options of using Intel’s Core i3 or i5 processors as well. You can expect such a notebook to burn quite a deep gap on your wallet, so you’d better start saving now.

PQI has rolled out its flagship memory module, the PQI Immortality DDR3 2200 which is touted to be an fundamental part of your computer whether you decide to build one from ground up, putting in nothing but the best components within. It is expected to help unleash the ultimate performance from Intel core i7 (Lynnfield, LGA 1156) processors, and with its TURBO DDR3-2200 frequency, it boasts a theoretical 40% advantage and when operating in dual channel mode to hit a whopping 35GB/Sec bandwidth. Of course, these figures will fluctuate and change in real world usage, but we’re still stoked that it offers a higher level of performance whether you’re specific about that. Too poor it would probably fail the bang-for-the-buck tryout, as that’s normal among high end products. You can pick from 1GB and 2GB packages to suit your fancy.

HP’s Envy line of notebooks is rather popular, and it seems that we were right when we predicted that 14-inch and 17-inch models would be appearing. HP has announced two new Envy notebooks in said sizes and despite what you may think of optical drives in that day and age, both feature slot-loading drives.

The Envy 17 obviously has a rather large display, which is powered by the Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series chip that supports Eyefinity, allowing it to drive multiple external displays on its own. It plus offers upgraded Beats audio processing along with a subwoofer, two hard drives to offer you up to 2TB of internal space, Intel Core i7 processor and USB 3.0 ports. Expect that to hit the market come on May 19th from $1,400 onwards.

The smaller Envy 14 offers a rather different 14.5-inch display which claims to be about 75 percent brighter than other 14-inch displays. From the looks of it, that model will be going squarely against Apple’s latest MacBook Pros and will be powered by Intel’s Core i5 and i7 processors with the option for 3G. that model will be shipping from June 27th for $1,000.

A beautiful piece of engineering and design, but, let’s be honest, pricewise it pushes extremes of what even latest hardware can cost. that though, Asus Eee Top ET2010AGT, which seems to me like a very distant but still a rival for a Core i7 powered 24-inch MSI winds things down a bit. I urge you to leave alone prejudice about Atom processors that all Eee PCs tend to have. It’s AMD Athlon X2 1.6GHz for that one, coupled with ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470 with 512MB committed memory, 4GB RAM and 7200rpm 500GB HDD should do well for home entertaining.
Word on the street is that Intel is gearing up for a significant update to its ultra-low voltage mobile chips, with a 1.46GHz Core i7 (68UM) lined up to be released in the fall. The ship is said to have the same 18W thermal peak potential, but could reach up to 2.53GHz when running in Turbo Boost mode. As with other Core i7 processors, that chip will additionally offer Hyperthreading, performing like a four-core chip with optimized programs. Pricing wasn’t mentioned, but hopefully it won’t break the bank.

You might have been hearing blurbs about processor shortages from Intel recently, and now it seems like the situation is set to continue, as analysts and chip resellers have warned that the shortage might not break until May at the earliest. Thanks to the shortage, there is a low supply of Intel’s mobile Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, which apparently have led to some companies to pay up to a 20 percent premium in order to ensure that they get sufficient supplies. According to reports, the smaller companies are those more likely to be affected as Intel often prioritizes larger companies by smaller ones, which shouldn’t be surprising, after all, they offer more business. With that in mind, it seems that major computer builders, such as Apple, Dell and HP, haven’t faced significant shortages. It was even rumored that Acer might be related to the shortage, as the company is gearing up to promote its TimelineX notebooks.

Gateway will have a couple of new notebooks for sale in Japan (this Friday, April 23rd, to be specific), which are the NV59C-H34E and the NV59C-H54E. The main difference within these two models is that the former is offered in silver or blue, and sports a Core i3-330M CPU clocked at 2.13GHz while the latter is only available in silver and is powered by Intel’s 2.26GHz Core i5-430M. Both will be going from 80,000 to 90,000 Yen ($858 to $965). Common features of the laptops include:

They say that moment changes things, and when it comes to consumer electronics, the change of existing devices often refers to the word “outdated”, but Maingear did not remain stagnant with their eX-L 15 gaming notebook which was released in August last year, updating it with a choice of Core i5 or i7 processors, accompanied by an ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics chipset, an LED-backlit 1,920 x 1,080 resolution display, the ability to hold up to 8GB RAM, and the choice within cramming in a hard drive or an SSD. Prices start from $1,599 upwards, although you can easily notch up a final price point of $4,000 and above when fully tricked out.

Gateway is back with a bang, targeting the business environment that duration round with the DT and DS series of computers. The former offers a bunch of mid-towers that run on up to Intel Core i7 processors with 16GB of DDR3 RAM to be a worthy performer, not to mention featuring a 1TB hard drive. As for the much more compact Gateway DS-series, it magically holds similar specifications, albeit being in a much more space-friendly design. They both share the abilities to run on Intel’s Q57 and H57 Express chipsets and come with slots for optional PCI Express x16 graphics cards. Any takers?
