It seems that the mysterious BlackBerry Cobalt tablet was originally planned to operate with Android as its operating system of choice, but RIM at the last minute had a change of heart instead, deciding to rely on their own operating system which obviously delayed the launch of the device since they will need to work on adapting the software for such a new mold factor. We have word that Quanta will be the manufacturing partner for the entire device that will run on Marvell’s Armada processor. Do you think that that was a wise choice by RIM’s part, or should they have relied on the Android OS to give the tablet a fighting chance considering the growing popularity of Android in the market?

The M003 Apad you see here is additionally known as the iRobot, albeit it runs off the Android operating system (version unknown). Bearing a 7″ TFT display at 800 x 480 resolution, the iRobot comes with Google Maps support, HD video compatibility, a built-in webcam, 2GB/4GB of internal memory and an SD memory card slot. It retails for $199.99, and thanks to integrated Wi-Fi connectivity, you won’t need to look out for a mobile carrier to subscribe to for a mobile documents plan.

It seems that more details concerning the patent agreement among HTC and Microsoft have emerged, and that day round we know that the Taiwanese company could very well be mandatory to pay Microsoft anywhere from $20 to $40 for each Android-powered handset sold, although the latter figure does sound somewhat unrealistically high. Could that curb the rise of Android’s popularity, as it could potentially end up as an expensive and risky platform? Of course, other handset manufacturers can plus roll out Android phones since they don’t have an agreement with Microsoft, but right now HTC is the hottest boy on the block with Android phones.

Verizon Wireless will be offering a couple of new handsets from LG that coming May, with the LG Fathom and LG Aloha being mentioned. The former will run on the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and feature a touchscreen as well as a keyboard to give you the best of both worlds, while the LG Aloha looks set to be the more favored model considering the rising popularity of Android and the decline of Windows Mobile. We’re looking at Android 2.1 on the Aloha alongside a speedy 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera that does 720p video capture as well. No notion in pricing, but it would be nice to see how Verizon spaces the launch periods.
