With the slew of tablets as well as iPad wannabes rolling out from China these days, the law of probability points toward a winner through the plethora of candidates, and perhaps one that might just edge out the iPad in terms of popularity? Perhaps in another lifetime, but kudos to Hott for their MD500 which is powered by the Android operating system. that tablet sports a 4.8" touchscreen display that was specially customized to operate with the ARM9 Rockchip processor, featuring full video playback support, a minimal screen bezel and interesting Android customizations.

eBooks Now Outnumber Games In The App Store

If you needed additional data to convince you that eBooks are getting more and more popular, just check out the latest stats from Mobclix, a mobile device advertising agency. Now it seems that the number of eBook apps have outnumbered games for the first moment, with 27,000 eBook apps compared to 25,400 games. The number of new eBook apps introduced by the last month additionally outnumbers that of games, at 158 versus 71. With the advent of the iPad, do you think that the gap will be further widened, or will the large screen of the iPad help increase the popularity of games in the App Store?

PureDepth Multi-Layer 3D OLED display patent acquired

PureDepth has successfully gotten hold of a Multi-Layer 3D OLED display patent which does away with the need for 3D glasses, offering actual depth thanks to its technology that relies on at least a couple of displays, with one placed in front of the other to create actual 3D effects. PureDepth is definitely looking at mobile devices (among other markets) with that development, since OLED displays are gaining in terms of popularity. that will certainly be a boon as they currently hold LCD-related patents that has just received a kindled spirit. Google flexes muscles against social networks

Google isn't going to let the popularity of social networking just pass by them without doing anything about it - word has it that the Net search giant is taking on Facebook and Twitter on their own turf, thanks to a new module in Gmail which can stream media and status updates of online friends. Hmm, that module more or less resembles a Gmail Labs feature that can be enabled or disabled at the explanation holder's discretion. Some might not say that that feature is worthy suitable to be a rival since Google has already integrated Twitter updates in its search, but it could be a stab at Facebook considering Facebook is already mulling by plans to introduce their own mail service.

Sling Player gets 3G streaming, AT&T iPhone mess, Cisco voice-by-WiFi app

The Sling Player app on the iPhone has been lost one key feature for many users -- 3G streaming. That lost feature has now been added back with examining of a new 3G streaming version of the app underway.
BusinessWeek is talking about the mess that is the AT&T network and the iPhone. The publication points to the popularity of the iPhone as one of the main causes of issues with the network.
Cisco is set to update its iPhone app to allow voice-over-WiFi calls to be placed. Cisco expects the app to be popular for companies that don't want to buy as many mobile minutes.

IE6 Users To Lose Gmail And Google Calendar Support Too

It was previously mentioned that Google Docs and Google Sites would be ditching support for Microsoft’s Net Explorer 6 (IE6).Considering the popularity of those services, it would probably be a good way to get users to upgrade/switch to a newer version or competing browser. Now it seems that Google is going to take it one step further, by dropping support for the rest of the Google Apps suite (including Gmail) late in 2010, though we’re obviously talking about IE6. that change will affect both enterprise and consumers, so whichever category you fall into, upgrading to a newer browser has just become more fundamental. Will other popular services start to drop support for IE6? It’s certainly a good way to produce the web move forward, though there is the risk of losing a part of your customer base.

Telus subscribers who have been pining for the Motorola Milestone will certainly be happy to take in that the company has officially announced that the Motorola Milestone will be included on its device lineup. It’s not available just yet, but Motorola has put up a page allowing you to sign up for future updates.
