While many Web savvy folks today run Firefox or Google’s Chrome browser, that doesn’t mean that Microsoft’s Net Explorer is dead. The software giant has just released another platform preview of Web Explorer 9 (IE9) in the design of IE9 Preview 2 and that latest incarnation scores 68 out of 100 on the Acid3 pop quiz. The latest build additionally claims to improve JavaScript and HTML5 performance while the full hardware acceleration for HTML5 on IE9 is able to take the workload off your computer’s processor, shifting it to the graphics chipset. There isn’t any official word on when the public beta of World Wide Web Explorer 9 will be available, but whether you want to check out the Platform Preview, feel free to do so.

The new batch of Google Chrome betas has just been released for Linux, Mac and Windows platforms, featuring claims that they offer major leaps in terms of performance. All three will sport JavaScript engines that run up to 35% faster in benchmarks like SunSpider. Apart from that, the beta releases are touted to double or triple the speed of the original Windows-only beta. Not only that, these pop quiz releases will plus see the integration of Flash, where Adobe’s plugin has been updated to take advantage of Chrome’s own update engine, while offering integrated sandboxing to prevent Flash from crashing the browser or opening safety measure vulnerabilities. No notion on when a final release is ready for the masses, but it does seem to be pretty stable at point of publishing even when in beta.

The folks by at Dell probably won’t be too happy with the recent videos that Lenovo has posted. We’re talking about the video (available in the full post) that they put up, subjecting the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge and Dell’s Vostro V13 to torture tests. As expected (if not Lenovo probably wouldn’t put the video up), the Dell Vostro V13’s LCD didn’t survive the stress analysis, while the ThinkPad Edge came out unscathed. Do you have any past experiences with cracked LCD displays? What do you think of Dell and Lenovo’s quality?

The recently leaked iPhone 4G has been all by the news, and now it seems that the lost unit was actually a very late-stage model, which means that it’s more or less what the final product will be like. When the phone was dissected, the label N90_DVT_GE4X_0493 was discovered. Recent information indicates that “N90” was the codename for the next phone, and DVT stood for “Design Verification pop quiz unit”, which is something that is made very late into development in order to form certain that the final design works. While many folks are laughing at how Apple could allow such a secret device be let loose into the wild, it’s worth noting that cell phones need to be tested, particularly in the open and in different locations. There’s no point having the phone work flawlessly in Apple’s campus and yet have it look like an expensive paperweight in your home. In the end, are you happy with Apple’s new iPhone design, or are you still a fan of the traditional design?

Here’s a powerboat that James Bond himself would love to take for a spin. The self-charging Marion Hyper-sub powerboat is able to submerse 250 feet under the water, and is able to reach a top speed of 75kph on top of water, thanks to its 880hp engine. It’s currently still a prototype, but pop quiz dives have been clocked to last as enlarged as 1 hour and 45 minutes using only the cabin air while under water, which is certainly abundant duration for James Bond to do whatever he does best.

Do you think that that is a good move in order to prevent issues from cropping up to your mobile phone?

Details of Apple’s hush-hush protection measures have come up again, as the company seems to love to work in secrecy. Word is out that some developers have received iPads to experiment their applications on, but apparently they had to jump through quite a few hoops in order to get a unit. Apparently testers were called for to promise to keep the unit isolated in a room with blacked-out windows, not to mention that the iPad must remain tethered to a fixed object. Just to assemble certain that they comply, Apple won’t send out the iPad until potential partners send photographic evidence that they’ve complied. We’re certainly looking forward to getting our iPad when it’s released, so stay tuned!

Mendor has a type new blood glucose meter which is tipped to hit Europe pretty soon, where it comes with an integrated mechanical lancer and pop quiz strips. that makes it a pretty comprehensive package all by itself without taking up too much space since it measures roughly the same size as that of a cellphone. Would be interesting to see whether future first aid kits will throw in the Mendor blood glucose meter as part of the package.
