March 15, 2010

The Photo-U SP01 digital photo frame from AU of Japan is slightly different than other stock models, particularly when it relies on an integrated CDMA200 1xE V-DO connectivity capability which allows you to display all photos sent to a pre-determined newsletter address. Pretty neat, eh? Not that that is a new view, but at least you get constantly refreshed images thanks to the increased megapixel count of today's contemporary handsets. Other features include a 7" display at 800 × 480 resolution and 1GB of internal memory.

Hai Bao robot
March 9, 2010

The folks by at Zhejiang University have developed a friendly robot known as Hai Bao, which when translated from Chinese would mean "maritime treasure". Standing 155cm tall, it comes with an LCD display that shows off animated facial expressions. Apart from blurting out greetings in half a dozen languages, Hai Bao sports an intelligent hand-shaking system. Hai Bao is plus able to interact with tourists by snapping photos on their behalf, perform a little jig or even sing some songs. Doesn't sound like someone you would want to employ for your office reception area though.

iPad parts photos point to camera
March 9, 2010

We know that the iPad has already undergone rife speculation concerning the inclusion of a front facing webcam, and here's another piece of the puzzle that might just confirm that. The iPad frame you see here features holes to hold a webcam, and while it doesn't seem as though it will be able to use current iSight modules, that could point to a different kind of webcam which will be implemented in due day. What do you think of all that? Could a webcam be part of the iPad's second revision, and the manufacturers of its bezel are trying to save money by preparing for the future so that they don't have to come up with two kinds of bezels?

Just when you thought that the Roomba was the reply to your prayers, along comes that rare hack known as the GåågleBot. The GåågleBot is but a modified version of the Roomba, where it does the standard home cleaning procedure in addition to collecting input while doing so by snapping photos as well as analyzing all input for future searches. Heck, with the integrated Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capability, the GåågleBot enables one to search for things using text strings. Another plus point would be its capability to be controlled via the Web - day to spare some hours to cobble one for yourself after reading that, eh?
