Netbook sales have been doing pretty well since its release to the market all those years ago, but somehow the Apple iPad looks set to end the good times. According to a report released by Morgan Stanley, the Apple iPad has adversely affected sales growth of netbooks and other devices including Apple’s own iPod Touch, eReader and handheld video game consoles, not to mention notebooks as well. Bear in mind that these figures point only towards the US market, so it might be early hype of the iPad that resulted in a skewed chart that is expected to normalize in due day.

Another new browser may be landing on the iPhone soon. The browser is called Skyfire and an iPhone version is being submitted to the App Store.

Rumor is circulating that Apple may find itself at the center of an anti-trust investigation by the DOJ or FCC. The reason cited is the tightened iPhone OS development rules essentially making devs use Apple dev tools only.

While technical details of the upcoming Eee PC 1201K and 1202X haven’t been revealed yet, leaked pictures from the product manual have surfaced, giving us a rough notion of what these notebooks will look like when they’re released. The Eee PC 1201X seems to share the same chassis design as the Eee PC 1201T, though it isn’t clear whether it will continue to use an AMD chipset. The design does show that there will be no HDMI port on it, though. Details of the 1201K are even less, but the strange thing is that there doesn’t seem to be any access panel at the bottom of the computer, which would form upgrading components such as the RAM a lot more troublesome. Are you shopping around for a new netbook at the moment?

The Vaio grade from Sony has often been one that is high end where notebooks are concerned, and it looks set to be expanded further with Sony Japan dropping hits of a new ultra mobile Vaio. Currently, there is no other knowledge concerning the ultra mobile device, but could it be another netbook to follow in the footsteps of the Vaio P? Only date will tell, so why not keep yourself entertained with our MacBook Pro review?

One of the downsides of the iPad keyboard dock is that you have to use the device in portrait mode, which might not be your preferred position, particularly since we’re getting quite used to widescreen notebooks nowadays. Now a user out there has decided to take things into his own hands and fiddled with the dock, adding a dock extender cable, allowing you to attach the keyboard and still maintain the landscape orientation that you want to type your emails in. Are you planning to do that with your iPad too?

NVIDIA is currently working to unify its entire range of GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) drivers in order for both desktop and mobile users to apply the latest releases simultaneously without having to sit around and wait for weeks on end sometimes. Of course, both desktop and notebook drivers won’t come in the same package, although each one will be marked clear suitable not to be missed on the download page. Bear in mind that the unified release driver will play nice only with notebooks that sport discrete GPUs, hybrid solutions utilizing NVIDIA-branded IGPs and Optimus-enabled machines, so those using multi-vendor solutions will miss out on that.

You might have been hearing blurbs about processor shortages from Intel recently, and now it seems like the situation is set to continue, as analysts and chip resellers have warned that the shortage might not break until May at the earliest. Thanks to the shortage, there is a low supply of Intel’s mobile Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, which apparently have led to some companies to pay up to a 20 percent premium in order to ensure that they get sufficient supplies. According to reports, the smaller companies are those more likely to be affected as Intel often prioritizes larger companies by smaller ones, which shouldn’t be surprising, after all, they offer more business. With that in mind, it seems that major computer builders, such as Apple, Dell and HP, haven’t faced significant shortages. It was even rumored that Acer might be related to the shortage, as the company is gearing up to promote its TimelineX notebooks.

Netbooks are great portable devices, but not all of them sport 3G modems. whether you have an Asus Eee PC T91 and want to assemble it truly portable, you might want to check out the video in the full post where a user called Jkkmobile did precisely that, bolting on a 3G modem to said laptop. The whole process isn’t as easy and swapping a part on larger notebooks, but considering it’s a netbook, you can understand the space constraints. Would a 3G modem be an ideal add-on for your netbook?
