Cisco unveils new router

Cisco is back with a bang, rolling out a new router packed with technology that they claim will "serve as the foundation of the next generation Web." that new release pays attention to the growing demands of video traffic on the Web as well as the need for more robust networking gear. Knonw as the CRS-3 Carrier Routing System, Cisco claims that that new device possesses at least a dozen times the traffic capacity of the nearest competing system, while triping the capacity of its predecessor, the Cisco CRS-1. Nvidia’s Jen Hsun Huang ‘looking forward’ to day in court with Intel

March 9, 2010

Jen Hsun Huang 'looking forward' to day in court with Intel

You might have heard of the legal battle amidst Intel and Nvidia: one of the unresolved issues is the Front Side Bus (FSB) license for Core ix processors that would allow Nvidia to create chipsets compatible with these CPUs (a chipset integrates functions like USB, Networking... and could feature integrated graphics as well). According to Nvidia, the deal was that Intel could use some Nvidia patents, while Nvidia could manufacture chips compatible with Intel CPUs. Intel is said to be wanting to continue using Nvidia's patents in new products, but Nvidia could not create products compatible with Intel's new products - that brought the Nvidia chipset design activities to a halt. Jen Hsun Huang (Nvidia's CEO) believes that “that is unfair" and is positive that the court will side on Nvidia's side at the end of the year. In the meantime, Nvidia released its Next-Generation ION chip, which is not a chipset anymore but an efficient discrete GPU that is turned on only when essential to save capability. The switch is seamless, thanks to the Optimus technology. Check the complete video interview on Fortune.

Verayo Touts Unclonable RFID Chips

When a safety measure company comes out and announces that its next-generation RFID ICs are unclonable, you can be certain that the company will attract a lot of attention, though the question is whether the attention is the desired type (potential customers), or the undesired type (folks who want to crack such safety measure measures). The first chip of the new product family, boasting the company’s Physical Unclonable Functions (PUF) technology, will be the Vera M4H, which can deliver defense to mass transit tickets, secure IDs, access cards and many other things. It sports a non-networked, unlimited authentication feature, which should help offer the defense needed, with significant cost benefits. The M4H is currently available for mass production, while the other RFID ICs in the product family will be available later that year. Do you think that there is such a thing as an unclonable chip, or is it just a wishful boast?
