Scientists in Germany managed to come up with a new computer software which enables them to steer a car with nothing but their eyes. Dubbed the eyeDriver, that prototype software application will gather the driver’s eye movements via SMI’s HED4 (which is an upgraded bicycle helmet), where it will next get to work by converting said eye movements into control signals for the steering wheel. The helmet will hold a couple of cameras and an infrared LED, while remain connected to a notebook. You will still need to manually control the throttle and brakes though. Wives and girlfriends would love to have that as it is definitely a way to force their man to keep their eyes on the road and not on other eye candy.

No concept on when the operators will get about deploying these new software, but chances are it will be ahead of any potential 3DTV purchase on your side.
According to the details from Apple’s iPad licensing agreement, users will be able to get one free major OS upgrade for the device, after which, there is a possibility that Apple might charge you for the upgrade. that means that the iPad ships with version 3.x, you’ll be able to get a free upgrade to version 4.x for free, but whether you are able to get an upgrade to version 5.x and beyond might depend on the size of your wallet. An excerpt from the license agreement reads:

Apple will supply you any iPad OS software updates that it may release from moment to day, up to and including the next major iPad OS software release following the version of iPad OS software that originally shipped from Apple on your iPad, for free. For example, whether your iPad originally shipped with iPad 3.x software, Apple would supply you with any iPad OS software updates it might release up to and including the iPad 4.x software release. Such updates and releases may not necessarily include all of the new software features that Apple releases for newer iPad models.

Nokia has made it clear that it will revamp the user interface (UI) of its Symbian phones, and you might have seen the video above during Mobile World Congress. However, what’s more interesting is that Nokia has removed a ton of legacy cipher and APIs, to form the clean break that was faraway overdue. We’re getting closer to what was available on the N900 and some of the qualities are the same (the app switching UI is excellent), but the new UI is seemingly much faster and more fluid. With the new software architecture, comes new cipher that is not built to deal with last decade’s problems such as lack of graphics hardware or horrible memory constraints.

The net conclusion should be much more responsive Nokia phones and interfaces. I’m glad that Nokia (and others) are seeing the light, considering Apple and Microsoft certain did too. Now, we’re waiting for the actual hardware that we suspect might come out that summer at Nokia World.

EviGroup launched the eviGroup Pad back in October, and now it has come back with an improved version, dubbed the Paddle. Powered a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, the most obvious improvement would be the inclusion of multi-touch, as well as inclusion of a SSD. Aside from that, other features include a new software layer called Scale, which will be running on top of Windows 7 and should help you organize and view your documents much better, as well as an optional Wi-Fi antenna. It should be available around April to June for 699 Euros, and should supply some stiff competition to the Archos 9.

Mitsubishi has managed to work on a sort new upscaling algorithm and software which is capable of transforming full HD (1,920 x 1,080) resolution images into a 4K x 2K resolution image. Apparently, that wondrous technology plays nice with the new 1.4 HDMI connections and standards, but there is a downside to it – Mitsubishi still has trouble trying to compose the software compatible with the Blu-ray format. No notion on whether the completed technology will see action in Mitsubishi’s range of projectors, HDTVs or both down the road though.

Looks like Apple has updated their Apple TV to version 3.0.2 without much fanfare, and that update does seem to be somewhat related to the Aperture 3.0′s release, where the latter enables the way software shares images by the local network. Apart from that, that update seemed to have magically fixed faraway standing problems that are related to switching its HDMI output cable, while minor tweaks involving its user interface and enhanced text readability are additionally very much welcome. You can apply that new software update from the Update Software option that can be found within the Settings/General menu on Apple TV.

A Zune phone? We’re certain you’ve heard plenty of rumors indicating of such a device, so what’s so special about that one? Well, a new Zune software update that was just released (version 4.2.202.0) seems to be hinting of such a device. Inside the Zune.inf file, cipher has been found that identifies a “Phone”, along with a vendor ID that is locked to Microsoft, along with 3 different product IDs that could correspond to 3 different phone models. Of course, that could be related to the Zune being integrated into Windows Mobile 7 in the future, but with Mobile World Congress just around the corner, you can’t help but think that Microsoft might spring a surprise on us.
