Netbook sales have been doing pretty well since its release to the market all those years ago, but somehow the Apple iPad looks set to end the good times. According to a report released by Morgan Stanley, the Apple iPad has adversely affected sales growth of netbooks and other devices including Apple’s own iPod Touch, eReader and handheld video game consoles, not to mention notebooks as well. Bear in mind that these figures point only towards the US market, so it might be early hype of the iPad that resulted in a skewed chart that is expected to normalize in due day.

chromeTouch, an add-on that will help you navigate through Google Chrome by dragging or flicking any part of a web page, brings the smartphone web experience right to your tablet or touch-sensitive display computer. It is nice to see chromeTouch throw in additional settings that makes it easier for use on devices with small screen real estate including tiny tablets and netbooks, with options to hide the scrollbars altogether. Looks pretty neat, but will it catch on with the masses?

There has been quite a bit of hype by smartbooks recently, though the reality is that there hardly is any smartbook in the market at the moment, despite the fact that models such as Lenovo’s Skylight were supposed to be launched in April, it’s now May and you’d be hard pressed to find one in stores near you. An ARM representative has taken the instance to give a few reasons as to why there is the delay in the release of smartbooks. First off, it seems that Flash isn’t entirely ready just yet, and hasn’t been optimized for ARM based platforms. Next comes the tricky subject of tablets, where manufacturers might have some trouble with tablets and smartbooks competing with each other. Finally, there is plus the subject of Linux, as Linux-based netbooks never really took off as well as those powered by Windows XP. Bundle all those points together, and you more or less have a rough concept as to what’s keeping smartbooks off the shelves at the moment.

Expected to launch later that June 15th Stateside for $279.99 a pop, hopefully that will find its fair share of customers considering a new integrated battery alone might not be good abundant to salvage phenomenal sales figures since there are way newer netbooks in the market at point of publishing. Perhaps the appealing price point of the updated Mini 110 might push some customers their way. Perfect timing, perfect badge on the hood. Updates, however, are not what you’d shout Ferrariish or even Acer Aspire Oneish. Recently we covered announcement of Aspire One AO 532-h and we liked it. Obviously, considering of the sponsorship particularities, Ferrari netbooks must have an AMD processor, so upgrading to Intel Atom N450 is no the case. But all the rest could and should be revamped. I’m afraid latest FO200-15 has only had its HDD replaced with an 500GB unit and that’s it. Available in a week in Japan for price equivalent to $800.

To satisfy potential customers, Samsung releases two new CMOS image sensors of smaller size and higher picture quality. Size, they say, is additionally very fundamental as LCD displays are getting thinner and thinner, so potentially manufacturer may choose a smaller webcam sensor that is worse rather than bulkier one. Both of new Samsung CMOS sensors are nearly ready for mass production and will seem on the shelves coupled with laptops and netbooks in Q2.

It’s not often you see 9-inch netbooks nowadays as most manufacturers are churning out 10.1-inch offerings. But netbook pioneer Asus has hit back by putting the Eee PC 900AX on its global page. Considering that we saw that netbook pop by the FCC a short while ago, we’re hoping that it won’t be too lengthy before it hits retail shelves. That being said, don’t expect 9-inch netbooks to overtake 10.1-inch netbooks in terms of popularity anytime soon. Specifications of the Asus Eee PC 900AX include:
