I’ve said it before. Major manufacturers should start implementing USB 3.0 technology into all shipping gadgets they can. That is the way for a new technology to become widely available in no instance. And what technology. SuperSpeed USB, apart from multiplying transfer speeds by 10, allows to stream video of any quality and resolution, at which I look with healthy enthusiasm. DisplayLink is working on that. So, the technology itself, ASUS has recently announced that they will install their freshly designed USB 3.0 enabled PCIe x4 bridge chip into a (very) wide range of its motherboards. In fact, N Series laptops and latest Eee PC netbooks will now have USB 3.0 chips, as well as machines based on a good dozen other of ASUS motherboards. What’s more, you can buy above mentioned PCIe x4 bridge chip for earlier-released units.

If you’re living in India it seems that there is some good news in store for you. Word is that Nokia will be offering its Comes With Music (CWM) service in the country in the first-half of 2010. According to the report, Nokia’s E-series, N-series, and X-series will be getting CWM, which will offer users unlimited music downloads for a whole year. While it seemed that Nokia would be going DRM-free, the report indicates that the music will be DRM-protected, though we certainly hope that we got that bit wrong. Are you a fan of Nokia’s Comes With Music feature?

Intel’s Atom Oak Trail processors are on their way to hit the market, and it is rumored to replace the existing Atom Z5xx series of processors which currently see action in a bunch of mobile devices such as the Sony Vaio P and Asus Eee PC T91MT touchscreen tablet. Currently, the family of Z520, Z530 and other Z-series processors more or less consume less juice compared to the Intel Atom N-series processors, and are accompanied by an integrated GMA 500 graphics chipset that boasts HD video acceleration, albeit resulting in a more sluggish performance somewhat oeverall. Oak Trail processors ought to sip less energy than its Pine Trail counterparts, but will only target devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Nokia’s N Series looks set to be getting a fair number of companions in the mold of C, X, E and S series. Among all five, one of the most looked forward to device would be the Nokia N8-00, and according to a translated French website, the handsets under difference series alphabets are as chases :-

C: lower end voice-based

X: focus on entertainment, music for a young target

E: committed to business, solutions for e-mails

N: High-end

S: very upscale and limited editions

As for the aforementioned Nokia N8-00, that model is tipped to be a summer hit, as it will come with a capacitive multitouch 3.5″ display, and will have the honor of being the first handset to run on the Symbian^3 operating system. Apart from that, it will sport a 12-megapixel camera which is capable of capturing video in 720p resolution at 30 fps, while boasting HDMI output.

Two years ago, the best holiday gift was an Amazon Kindle — whether you could get your hands on one. They were hot, new and sold out hours after going on sale. Last year, the Kindle made an awesome gift as well.

This year, all the e-book readers on the market, including the new Kindles, are better devices than last year’s Kindles. (Amazon announced that week that it has improved battery life by 85 percent, and has added a native PDF reader. These improvements are software-based, so most older readers will get them automatically by the wireless network.)

And there has never been more choice in e-readers. In addition to the Amazon Kindle, you could buy a Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, Hanvon N series, Bookeen Cybook Opus, Elonex eBook, Endless Ideas BeBook, Interead COOL-ER, Samsung Papyrus, Foxit Software eSlick, iRex Digital Reader, Jinke Hanlin or others.

The e-book market has never been better. But that doesn’t mean you should buy one as a gift. Here’s why e-book readers invent awful gifts that year.

Car cam ‘black box’ records video forward and back

Police cars have front-facing cameras to gather evidence during traffic stops. Airlines have black-box recording devices that gather documents in the event of a crash. Public buses tend to have cameras trained on the inside of the vehicle for shield and evidence gathering. But the new Car Cam Dually does it all.

We rely on Web 2.0 services like Wikipedia and Digg. But we’ve become dangerously reliant upon some “cloud” and online services. Many of these aren’t profitable, and rely on venture capital. In fact, it’s a near certainty that many of the services we rely on will not survive the next year or two. What happens when they go away?

As a general rule, humans don’t like buying their jewelry from reduction gadget catalogs, and plus don’t like notes storage devices to be obsoleted by the ending of the holiday season.

Remember the Pet Rock fad of the 70s? Now it’s been modernized with a USB cable.

And whether that doesn’t ruin your holidays, there’s always USB Christmas tree lights.

The most expensive cell phone ever is that $3.2-million gold iPhone 3GS studded with 136 diamonds.

The latest Chinese trademark infringement of Apple branding is the new Apple Q300 Ultra, which uses the name “Apple,” says “iPhone” right below the screen — and even has the Apple logo on the outside of the case. The product itself, however, is unlike anything Apple has ever produced. It’s an old-school clamshell device, rather than an all-screen touch phone. additionally interesting and objectionable is that the phone uses an operating system that has no Chinese-language capability, so that phone is built for export outside of China.

China Unicom, which is the exclusive authorized carrier for the Apple iPhone in China, will plus sell a fake iPhone called the uPhone, which runs Android. The uPhone is probably the reply to rival China Mobile’s iPhone clone, the oPhone. That’s the market for touch phones in China: Two fake iPhones battle it out for supremacy on the two major carriers while the real iPhone languishes in obscurity and irrelevance.

Could the Symbian S60 operating system be dying a slow but certain death? That is what most folks would think with word going around, stating that Nokia will include Maemo on all of its flagship N Series smartphones down the road instead of the old faithful, Symbian S60. It won’t be instant though, but gradual with the transition being brought to completion when 2012 rolls around. Well, at least the S60 can still find a home on the X Series and E Series.

Update: Nokia has issued a statement that contradicts what its Maemo team said publicly in London. There you go:

While it is our policy not to reveal details of our product roadmap, we’d like to explicitly communicate that we remain firmly committed to Symbian as our smartphone platform of choice. Any speculation on what our 2012 roadmap, including operating systems and product branding, are completely premature.
