Virgin Media’s upcoming music download service has been given an official name – MusicFish. According to reports, the service will be launching in July. In case you aren’t familiar with it, MusicFish will be a competitor to Spotify, and will be offering unlimited music streaming at downloads at £6.50 per month. There aren’t any details yet as to how the tracks will be delivered to the user, and that will certainly be one of the main challenges that MusicFish will face, particularly since most folks agree that Spotify’s success is largely due to its speed, ease-of-use, and its mobile applications. Will MusicFish be a success? Well, only date will tell, so let’s keep an eye on it, shall we?

Have you been dreaming of converting your library of old cassette tapes, vinyl albums and such into CDs? Well, now you can do it, with the Crosley Songwriter, which looks real nostalgic, but will be able to do the job of playing the music from your old media, and recording them to a CD. The Songwriter has a three-speed turntable, cassette player, AM/FM radio, and a CD playback/recording unit and will be going for $399. Do you think it’s a better option than buying all your music again from iTunes?

Olive Media Inc has released that 4HD high-end music server that aims to match the 24-bit/192Khz standard used in recording studios (for reference, CDs are encoded with 16-bit values at 44.1Khz). Assuming that you have the speaker setup that matches what the Olive 4HD can output, you would compose out how “music sounds as it is recorded”.

The Olive 4HD comes with 2TB of storage, which is equivalent to 20,000 HD songs, or 6000 CDs. Users can move details from a PC or copy tracks from a (low-res!) CD. It costs $2000, and my question is: where do I find the HD audio composition?
