Motorola has decided to ditch Google’s Android location services with Skyhook Wireless instead, a company that hails from Boston, MA. that could be due to the less than accurate positioning info that plagued Google’s integrated system, making it a minus point for handset manufacturers and Android app developers. Motorola took the pro-active approach by looking to Skyhook Wireless, where their service merges with Wi-Fi hotspot triangulation, cell tower triangulation and GPS info in order to offer fast and accurate location knowledge. Guess we can look forward to upcoming Motorola phones, eh?

It looks like Sprint isn’t the only one to offer the Motorola i1, as SouthernLINC Wireless will additionally sell that iDEN Android smartphone from Q2 2010 onwards. that is interesting since SouthernLINC Wireless has more or less remained in the background most of the moment, offering nothing but low-end devices so it is a refreshing change to see them move to an upmarket handset for once. Hopefully with more carriers offering the Motorola i1, it will push the profile of iDEN handsets to the forefront even more. You can read more on the phone’s specifications in our earlier post last week.

Verizon Wireless has been touted to bring the Motorola Devour to the masses, and in case the name sounds unfamiliar, perhaps the Motorola Calgary might ring a bell instead? that is touted to be a low-end alternative to the Droid, where it will come with a more basic 3-megapixel camera and a smaller display. Regardless, it should have decent muscle to run the Android 2.1 operating system when released, and holds the distinction of being one of Motorola’s first handsets that will utilize its customized MOTOBLUR interface with a version of Android newer than 1.5.
While the folks by at Verizon probably enjoyed poking fun at the iPhone and AT&T’s network with its “Droid Does” campaign. AT&T certainly wasn’t too happy about those, evidenced by the lawsuit fired in Verizon’s direction. Now the latest ads emphasize that the Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless can’t manufacture use of its input connection and maintain a voice signal at the same moment. With the advertisements showing the user performing a variety of tasks such as browsing the Net, sending an mail amongst others, while still maintaining the shout. It ends with “can your network or phone do that?” which is an obvious reference to Verizon Wireless and its Motorola Droid. Check out the advertisement here and here.
