Are you an avid golfer? whether so, soon after you might want to consider the Garmin G3 and G5 that offers the chance to reduce your handicap. The waterproof Approach G3 comes with a 2.6″ display, while the G5 has a larger 3″ screen, where both models will sport 1,250 pre-loaded courses as well as the ability to capture intimate details of every round. Apart from that, it can additionally help you in club selection by detailing distance to the pin or the best position to land the ideal approach shot. Some might signal that cheating, but hey, whether you ever want to get on the pro circuit, you need all the help you can before ditching such assistance, eh? The display itself is touchscreen capable, where Play and Preview options allows golfers to see detailed course maps with precise distance info from their current location to any position on the gap using Touch-Targeting. Too poor that seems to be limited to the 1,250 available courses for the UK, while additional courses for the UK and other countries across Europe can be downloaded at regular intervals to stay up to period.

TomTom has announced two new GPS devices, the XL 350 and the XXL 550. Both these devices headed for the US are based on models from Europe that use the XL IQ routes and will offer the simplified menu system that is available on TomTom EASE devices. The XL 350 offers a 4.3-inch display and will set you back $169.95. The XXL 550 is listed as offering a 4.3-inch display as well, but there could be a mistake there, as the XXL models generally come with 5-inch displays. The XXL 550 will be going for $199.95. Both devices will offer lifetime maps and optional lifetime traffic updates whether you decide to shell out some additional money.

G.Skill universal has a spanking new Phoenix SATA II 2.5-inch SSD for the mass market, where you can choose from some rather strange denominations when it comes to total amount of storage space – we’re talking about 50GB, 100GB or 200GB capacities, where they will all feature the SandForce SF-1200 controller which is capable of hitting 280MB/s read and 270MB/s write speeds. Each purchase will be accompanied by a 2-year warranty, although we do not have any data on pricing and availability. Just in case you were wondering whether hard drives will get obsolete, companies are looking at 900GB models in the near future, so for those who don’t mind some noise coming out of their computers when info is being accessed, soon after you can always give the SSD camp a miss. [Press Release]

The second iteration of the Thanko Wristband Battery goes one up on its predecessor as it no longer supports purely portable gaming consoles like the PSP and Nintendo DS, but will plus support a whole range of new devices including all Japanese cellphones, iPod, iPhone, PSP, W-Zero3 Sharp MID and DS (all models). Not only that, you will benefit from an On/Off button as well as a 1,500mAh battery which ought to supply juice when you need it the most, particularly during those unexpected moments. We’re not too certain what Nintendo has to say about their ad showing a DS running on a R4 cart though, perhaps it is a homebrew Thanko program?

Hitachi has four more projectors that are ready to hit the market, with the CP-X3011N, CP-X4011N, CP-2511N and CP-X2011N all being prepped for a general release. You will find it rather surprising that Hitachi uses the same design, features and connectivity options on all four – what is that, a case of quadtuplets? Of course, there will be minor variations within the models with its brightness level and contrast ratio being the main differing factors, but apart from that it is pretty hard to tell the difference from one to another. Shared features include XGA (1,024 x 768) resolution and 3LCD display technology, where the X4011N is the “high end” version at 4,000 ANSI lumens with the X2011N being the lowest at 2,200 ANSI lumens. Depending on the model you pick, they retail anywhere from $2,995 to $2,295.
