Intel has announced its new platform includes an Intel Atom Processor (Z6xx Series), the Controller Hub MP20 and a committed Mixed Signal IC (MSIC). Intel has been able to reduce idle mode potential consumption by up to 50X, which is critical considering handsets and tablets tend to be always on, often in idle mode. According to Intel, the new platform can additionally play audio for 2 days straight, but play video only for 4-5 hours (on a 1500mAh battery, and compared to the “Menlow” generation of Atom). Here’s an example of what a real Intel-powered phone looks like.

We can’t wait to see what devices will come out in the next few quarters. As for the Operating system, Intel will promote Meego, which was freshly announced at Mobile World Congress in February. Of course, Windows is always an option.

Despite all the good news, Intel still has some ways to go before displacing ARM-based chips from NVIDIA, Broadcom or Marvell, but Intel has been driving its products in ARM’s turf, much faster than ARM can go into Intel’s territory.

Kinstone of China is pimping a type new Mobile World Wide Web Device (MID) that has yet to be christened, although something tells us that it might be nigh unpronounceable when named officially. that will be an ARM-based device that is powered by the Windows CE operating system, where it is equipped with a 5″ touchscreen display, a couple of mini USB ports, a mini HDMI port, a microSD memory card slot and an integrated speaker. Priced at approximately $176 after conversion, we are betting that that won’t hit our shores anytime soon. Even whether it did, would it be able to hold its own against other MIDs?

Expected to hit Europe sometime later that month, those of us living Stateside can look forward to a release later that year.

The Tongfang Q5 is another Mobile World Wide Web Device (MID) which will run on the Android operating system, and has the formidable Rockchip RK2808 chipset running within. Tipping the scales at just 209 grams, the Tongfang Q5 is equipped with a 4.8″ capacitive touchscreen display, an 866MHZ ARM processor, 128MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 2,200mAh battery to keep it running. Since it supports 720p video codec playback, you can additionally use that as a formidable portable media player apart from surfing the World Wide Web with it. It is going for around $293 in China after conversion, and you might need to import one Stateside whether you’re curious to find out more about it.

Guess that is one weird amalgamation of a device that doesn’t really know where it stands – is it a Mobile World Wide Web Device with phone capabilities, or is it just a smartphone with a really, really huge display? Either way, the Qi-based U2000 comes with a 5″ touchscreen display alongside Windows Mobile 6.5 as the operating system of choice. It will be powered by a 624MHz Marvell processor, sporting three buttons in a specific area (does that mean it is Windows Phone 7 Series ready?) and a 3.2-megapixel camera located in a corner. No view on when that will hit the market, nor how much will it cost though.

The folks at Sinchun of Shenzen has done it again, release another generic Mobile Net Device (MID) known as the Saycool M7, where it will come equipped with a 7″ capacitive multitouch touchscreen display at 1,024 x 600 resolution, coupled with Windows XP as the operating system of choice. Processing muscle comes in the scheme of an Intel Atom Z510 1.1GHz processor, where it will be accompanied by 1GB RAM, a 16GB SSD, a VGA webcam, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, an optional 3G module, a SIM card slot which plays nice with CDMA and all the relevant USB and Ethernet ports to keep you connected. Seems pretty similar to the Inkia MID500n we covered earlier, save that that model lacks GPS navigation. No view on pricing or availability though.

The Dawa D7 Mobile World Wide Web Device (MID) could very well be popular whether it were to be carried by a more notable name in the world of consumer electronics – after all, it would be pretty hard to turn down a 7″ MID which has multitouch support as well as a capacitive touchscreen display, right? Apart from that, you can be certain that performance is going to be pretty zippy, particularly when it comes with a 720Mhz Telechips 8901 processor which is aided by 256MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, a microSDHC memory card slot, integrated GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. Full HD? Dawa’s got you covered with support for 1080p videos and 1080p HDMI video output. The only thing left for us to know would be its price, but even so that will be revealed that coming April.
