It’s actually quite interesting to see how Google and Apple seem to mirror each others’ actions. After Google acquired 3D desktop manager BumpTop, a patent filing from Apple has surfaced showing that Apple is looking to the possibility of 3D widgets on its OS dashboard in the future. These 3D widgets would be able to supply different features, attributes or functionalities depending on which side of the widget you visit on. Users will be able to lift and rotate the widgets in order to expose these functions. Such a design would probably be quite popular considering that everybody is moving towards 3D nowadays.

Transcend has rolled out its latest StoreJet 25D2 portable hard drive that comes in a 2.5″ design factor, where it hooks up to your computing machine of your choice via USB 2.0. We would very much have preferred to see it come with USB 3.0 connectivity, but we guess until that platform becomes mainstream, USB 2.0 will still be here at least for a while. Its exterior comes with a mirror-like high gloss finish, but despite the fragile appearance, it is firm and rugged with an advanced internal hard drive suspension system that prevents damage caused by accidental slips or falls when traveling. The inclusion of anti-slip rubber feet plus ensures a stable base for the StoreJet 25D2 to rest on a flat surface. To further strengthen its case, it comes with an motorized power-saving sleep mode after ten minutes of inactivity, letting you save up to 30% of juice. Each purchase comes with Transcend`s own StoreJet Elite software and 256-bit AES encryption, where you can choose from 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB capacities.

Do you think that you’re good decent to beat Tiger Woods in his current vulnerable state? whether you want to challenge him, you’re probably going to need some training, and that Laser Alignment Putting Trainer will be one of the tools in your arsenal to help you prepared. Endorsed by golf analyst, Jerry Foltz, it uses a laser to show you when your putter is aligned properly before you build the putt, thanks to an L-shaped mirror that’s attached to the toe of your putter. The bars on the display are there to indicate whether your putter’s blade is perfectly square and level with the ground at the moment of impact or not. Powered by a pair of AAA batteries and costing $59.95, do you think that it’s a fair price to improve your game?

The Qiao Sheng A45 cellphone sports a really alternative mold factor (although Nokia did come up with something like that in the past), coming in a high lacquered finish and a display which is capable of rotating through 180 degrees while functioning as a make-up mirror as well. Meant to be the ideal handbag accessory, the Qiao Sheng A45 is equipped with a 2.2″ mirror touchscreen display, a 3-megapixel camera and a user interface that only folks who have yet to be spoilt by something classier can love.

[MWC 2010] The much anticipated LG GD880 Mini, touted the “smallest and slimmest 3.2-inch full touchscreen on the market” by LG is finally officially launched. I briefly saw it a few days ago, the design is elegant and sleek giving the phone a mirror-like look. The new “Social Network Connect” interface that allows users to access the social web (aka Twitter and Facebook built-in apps) easily seemed well designed as well, I did not play with it though. Additionally, LG, following the trend, implemented a Social Network Feed that pushes notifications and updates from all the user’s contacts.

The most noticeable hardware features are the 5 megapixel camera, the 7,2 Mbit/s HDSPA connectivity, the 16:9 ratio 3.2″display, the A-GPS and the Wi-Fi support. It will be available in Europe early May and it will retail without a plan for 400 Euros (in France). We will update the post with the US availability and pricing soon.

We’ve seen some pretty wacky hard drive clocks in the past, and here’s one that will probably look quite comfortable on your desk. Done by the folks by at TEcoART, it’s made from a recycled hard disk, and the clock dial is an actual mirror-finished disk platter. The base of that clock is made from the circuit board from a computer’s modem boosting its geeky credentials ever so slightly. Each of these clocks will come with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. At $36, it makes for a rather nice novelty item, perfect for the computer loving nephew of yours. Of course, whether you’re really into DIY, you could always come up with one of these yourself, which should certainly look interesting.

Computer performance enthusiasts would certainly welcome the SilverStone HDDBoost into their fold, considering that peripheral touts the ability to boost hard drive performance by up to a whopping 70%! It will hook up from one 2.5″ SSD to any 3.5″ hard drive. When connected, the hard drive will get to work by creating a mirror of the front end input of the hard drive, copying everything by to the SSD which ought to go a towering way in helping your machine access such stored files in a speedier manner. Even better news is there isn’t any need for special software to take advantage of the HDDBoost. Currently available in Japan only at the moment, the SilverStone HDDBoost will retail for approximately $50. is mandatory. Just plug the drives in and the hardware takes care of everything automatically. The total price is around $50, although the device is only available in Japan right now. That should change whether that thing really does work as advertised. It sounds like the perfect stop-gap among HDDs and SSDs.
