The Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming Headset System has finally made its way to the US, where it will offer full immersion 3D audio which more or less lets you precisely identify movements around you – fundamental whether you’re knee deep in First Person Shooters, but otherwise not so useful whether RTS and MMORPGs are more your cup of tea. Five speakers located around the headband will channel sound to the ear in a natural manner, accompanied by a subwoofer in each ear cup. The microphone itself is removable, while the open ended ear cups lets you build out conversation in the room. These won’t come cheap though at $299.99 per pair.

Orange Amps has just rolled out their OPC, a computer amplifier that looks like an amp from the outside, while its innards house various computer parts including 4GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive, an Intel processor as well as a 64-bit version of the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. The Mertz active vision head robot is pretty creepy when you think about it, as it does remind us of I, Robot in many ways. The brainchild of Lijin Aryananda and Jeff Weber at the MIT Media Lab, Mertz was built to recognize and react to faces and expressions, aiming to research socially situated learning which is similar to an infant’s learning process. It is hoped that when placed around public and absorbing knowledge round the clock, it would be able to “learn” dynamically so to speak, recognize specific individuals and even repeat common words or phrases. Mertz is equipped with 13 degrees of freedom, individually actuated eyebrows and lips (hopefully he can pull the many faces of The Rock of WWE fame) and a microphone. Interesting project, don’t you thyink so?

Looks like Apple intends to get a little more serious about gaming, as the fruity company has submitted a patent on a device that’s related to gaming. From the patent it’s known that the device can be used as an external gaming device and might have several accessories. Variations of said accessory might include a camera, vibration add-on, microphone, and an accelerometer. The design additionally shows an accessory that will give a portable touchscreen device some external gaming controls, much like those gamepad accessories that show up from day to day for your iPhone. Sony has announced a few new headsets, namely the DR-EX300iP, MDR-EX38iP, and MDR-E10iP. All of these headsets offer in-line remote controls, which will be a boon to the many iPod/iPhone users out there, since you’ll be able to access the commonly used functions easily, without having to pull out your music player. The built-in microphone additionally lets iPhone users chat hands-free. The headsets offer either 9mm or 13mm Neodymium drivers, and a choice of different colors, offering you good sound quality and the choice of colors.
