The folks at Google once again confirm their brilliance with yet another port of the Quake II game engine, that duration round running on HTML5 without the need for flash or plug-ins.

We started with the existing Jake2 Java port of the Quake II engine, soon after used the Google Web Toolkit (along with WebGL, WebSockets, and a lot of refactoring) to cross-compile it into Javascript. You can see the results in the video above — we were honestly a bit surprised when we saw it pushing by 30 frames per second on our laptops (your mileage may vary)!

Will wonders never cease? Hats off to the folks at Google! Just in case you were wondering, we additionally covered previous news on Quake ports here, here and here.

There are lamps, and thereupon there are lamps. that beautiful lampshade falls under the latter, as it is capable of collapsing down to a virtually flat structure factor due to the way it was made using lasers.

The only way to create something with that sort of complexity is rapid prototyping—and laser sintering, to be exact. The process works by sweeping a laser across a pan of powdered nylon; when the lasers hit the nylon, it fuses (“sinters”). The process repeats in layers, until the final product emerges. Thus, you can create interlocking shapes all at once—for example, a chain whose urls are completely closed.

We wonder what else around the home would look better after undergoing some laser treatment…

If you have an Intel-based Mac and there’s a PC application you need to use, you can run it using Boot Camp. You’ll need to supply a copy of Microsoft Windows, but Boot Camp is included in Mac OS X Leopard. Setup is simple and straightforward — just as you’d expect with a Mac.
that update addresses issues with the Apple trackpad and turns off the red digital audio port LED on laptop computers when it is not being used. It additionally includes support for the Apple Magic mouse and wireless keyboard. It is intended only for use with Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista running on a Mac computer using Boot Camp.
Requirements

Boot Camp 2.1 must be installed prior to running that update
For Windows Vista, Windows Vista Service Pack 2 must be installed before running that update.
