Barnes & Noble eReader app for Apple iPad

Barnes & Noble has made it known that they will be releasing their version of the eReader app for the Apple iPad sometime near the device's launch, but apart from that, they have remained mum on the other details. We do know that the app will be free though, as it offers you access to all of the books, magazines and newspapers available in Barnes & Noble's eBookstore. Does that mean we could cross our fingers for a Kindle app as well?

Microsoft Tag could be the next CueCat

February 1, 2010

Rewind your memories and see whether you remember CueCat - a bar cipher reader that supposedly connects magazine readers with digital material. Never heard of it? That's OK - Microsoft ought to do a better job promoting its upcoming Microsoft Tag, which could very well be CueCat reincarnated (a cat has nine lives after all, doesn't it?). Microsoft Tag keeps up with the times, however, by doing away with the need for a tag, but it does require your cellphone to have a camera in order to scan a specific bar cipher, allowing digital composition to seem on the phone itself after doing so. Such tags can be placed in magazines, newspapers, business cards, products as well as large outdoor signs, making it the hyperlink in the physical realm. No notion on how Microsoft will monetize Tag, but it will remain free at the moment until they figure something out. For more context, check out the YouTube video above.

Time demos magazine tablet

December 2, 2009

Time could be next to hop on the tablet device bandwagon, having demonstrated a magazine tablet that sports (no pun intended) a touch-friendly issue of Sports Illustrated. Apart from reading the latest happenings in the world of sports, we're guessing that some readers would additionally prefer to have a version which caters for Swimsuit Illustrated as well, considering the amount of touching that is going on here. Is that how future magazines will be published, delivered across an electronic medium?
