While rumors are still going around as to what the upcoming MacBook Pro refresh will give us, a recent patent discovery has us dreaming of a MacBook Pro that sports a pico-projector. In the patent filing, it’s very obvious that the laptop described could have a projection system installed at the back, allowing you to project an image from your laptop (which would probably be some version of a MacBook). The positioning of the projector itself is rather useful, since you’ll be able to still use your laptop while projecting an image to the wall in front of you. Would you be willing to pay a premium in order to get a pico-projector built into your next-generation MacBook Pro?

Patent filing.

Could that be an accidental leak by the Australian Apple online store? An eagle-eyed reader noticed that there were new Apple ads on the Australian tech site PC Authority showing higher prices for the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Pro. The Australian Apple online store lists said items at A$1999, A$1599 and A$3599 respectively, but the ads sighted showed starting prices of A$2399, A$1899, and A$4499 respectively. whether you go on the ads, you’re redirected to Apple’s current crop of machines at current prices, though. So is that an accident that caused the ads to run early, or was there a mistake in the price listing? What do you think? It does seem high duration for an upgrade to the Mac Pro and MacBook Pro.

Asus and NVIDIA have just announced that several new models of the award-winning Asus Eee line are shipping with NVIDIA’s Ion chipset (the same one used in the Macbook Pro). The new products include:

Eee PC 1201N: Ion + dual-core CPU (Atom) netbook

EeeTop PC EB1012: All-in-one 20″ with touch screen and DVD

EeeBox PC EB 1012: Nettop that is HD video capable

EeeBox PC EB1501: A more energetic box with 4GB of memory and Windows 7 Home Premium

AT3N7A-I: A mini-ITX motherboard for home theater PCs

With the upcoming Flash 10.1 (final release), Ion will be extremely potent, not only for hardware-accelerated DVD or Blu-Ray playback (it has been since day 1), but plus for playing fullscreen Flash videos from sites like Hulu or YouTube, which are quickly becoming critical to a Media Center experience. that is a major design-win for NVIDIA.
