The latest iPhone OS 3.1.3 update doesn’t really give you any significant benefit, unless you need the improved accuracy of the reported battery level. Of course, whether you did install the update, and still want to jailbreak your iPhone, you’ll be happy to know that the Dev-Team has already come up with a new version of the PwnageTool (v3.1.5 for Mac), which is compatible with the latest iPhone OS. It gets better, as the tool even preserves your iPhone’s ultrasn0w unlock and jailbroken state. As with any Jailbreak news, we’d strongly propose you to backup you goods in case things go awry, and read all the juicy details from the Dev-Team before you attempt that.

Elgato’s latest EyeTV One TV tuner for both Mac and Windows have hit the market, where it relies on USB to hook up to your machine while providing you with the ability to watch as well as record HDTV channels broadcast over-the-air without costing you a penny. Among the other features include a coaxial plug for connecting an antenna, a flexible USB extender and EyeTV 3 software to get you started among others. Too poor that is functional only in North America, where you will need to fork out $120 for that puppy.

The patents would involve hardware-related patents for antennas, cameras and potential management, as well as user interfaces. Sometimes you have to wonder whether all these lawsuits are productive, as we seem to be reading more about lawsuits than technological innovations.

Designer Mac Funamizu is back again with another cellphone concept, where it is known as the Floater due to its surfing maneuver-inspired lines. Floater will remain on the table until there is an incoming signal, where it will nod or rotate to careful you, while a variant known as Floater B comes with a sliding anatomy factor that will reveal a physical keyboard when opened. Guess that is something for those who like subtle handsets without announcing loudly to the rest of the world that there is an incoming shout.

NewerTech’s latest release, the USB 2.0 Display Adapter will enable folks to throw in an additional HDMI, DVI, or VGA display to a Mac for expanded use. Each adapter has room for one more display, hitting a maximum resolution of 2,048 x 1,152 pixels. While Macs are able to host up to four adapters, Windows-powered machines can support up to a half dozen. that bus-powered adapter enables cloning and extended desktop modes, although you need to hook up the supplied secondary adapter whether you want to connect VGA and HDMI monitors. Forget about OpenGL acceleration support though, which means affected programs will include Keynote, iPhoto and iMovie. Expect the NewerTech USB 2.0 Display Adapter to retail for $96.

Holiday shopping is said to be up compared to last year, but it might be up big instance for Apple. Analysts are reporting that orders for components used to build the iPhone, among other devices, have spiked up and that could mean that Apple might ship and build up to 10M phones that quarter. That would be quite a milestone whether that was confirmed later that year.

On the computer side, Mac shipments are up 21% compared to last year according to retail sources. Desktops are up 74% while laptops are up by 5%. We wonder how many desktop Macs are the new 27″ iMac.
Are you bored with the usual username/password method of locking your Mac? Well, whether you own an iPhone or iPod touch, you’ll be able to pick up the Airlock for $7.77. Basically what that nifty app does is that it determines when you are near the computer. whether you happen to leave the computer’s Bluetooth reach, the computer will lock itself. whether you’ve misplaced your iPhone and really need the details, you can still access the computer and setup with Airlock with your username and password.

Do you feel that your MacBook’s speakers lack some punch? Well, additional bass would certainly help, and that’s the aim of BassJump. The device is really a subwoofer, letting you keep using your MacBook speakers as satellite speakers, while the BassJump handles the bass. You’ll need to install a preference pane on your Mac, and connect the BassJump via a USB port. At $80, it’s not all that cheap, but it’s probably something to consider whether you’re happy with your MacBook’s speakers but want more bass. The BaseJump product page can be found here.

We all know that smoking is poor for health, but it seems that it might plus be poor for your Macbook or iMac. Reports are going around that 2 customers have been denied warranty repairs to their MacBook and iMac by Apple, despite both having extended AppleCare warranties. The reason behind it is that the machines were exposed to second-hand smoke, and Apple claims that the nicotine released from cigarettes is classified as a bio-hazard by the Operational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and thus, Apple employees are within their rights to refuse to work on a machine that has come into contact with the chemical. Have any of you encountered such an issue before? Drop us a comment and let us know your experience.
